Wanted: 2-3 rai within 15 minutes of eastern Ring Rd.
Earlier this year I purchased 3 rai of land 29km west of the Ring Rd outside of Kut Chap city. We fenced it, dug a pond and 3 canals, filled the foundation for our proposed garden home and driveway and designed a home and got a building permit. Unfortunately, we just found out that PEA wants 1,000,000 Baht to provide us with electricity, so we have shelved that project, and I am now looking for 2-3 rai within 15 kms of the eastern Ring Road. I paid only 157,000 Baht per rai for the land in Kut Chap, so I am looking for a similar deal closer to Udon. It must also have electric, and water would be great, but we can always put in a well. An existing pond and a partially wooded area to shade the new home would also be nice. I realize that I am looking for a needle in a haystack at that price, but perhaps there is a distressed seller out there that is ready to make a deal. Your referrals, comments or suggestions will be warmly received. Thanks in advance!

We’re 7km from the ring road on HWY2. The Boy’s boss in the army asked us the other week if we knew of any land he could build on for when he leaves the barracks.
Mrs N dived straight in because she likes this sort of thing. She couldn’t find anywhere for less than ฿1m a rai. Some chancers even told her ฿1m for ½ rai.
I don’t know why land is so expensive round here. Maybe because everywhere has easy access to power & water. We’re also really close to town.
Have you thought about going off grid with your existing land? It sounds a shame to leave it after you’ve put in all the work.

Thanks for your comments, Niggly. Quite frankly, I am almost glad that we ran into the problem with PEA. I was having second thoughts about being that far away from Udon anyway. I'm 78 years old and have some health issues, and I began to realize that it would a bad idea to be that way far away from a good hospital. When things go bump in the night, 59 km to the nearest hospital would be a death sentence.
