latest news as of 6:20PM tonight, Monday 28 July, the Thai and Cambodian PM's at their meeing in Malaysia have agreed to an immediate cease fire. We'll see how that percolates down to the troops in border areas..

I don't profess to know which country initiated the first shot, but this is just another case of one Country attempting to fight a conflict / war, that they cannot possibly win or even draw.

My son n i are heading down this way for a day next week with calls in Surin , Sisaket and Ubon but in he actual city / town center not close to the border , talked to one Brit customer who is based in Kantanalak on HW 24 and he says all seems ok where he is but will meet us in Sisaket so we can use the 226 not the 24.
He commented at the moment it is a tense situation along the border and best avoided with small villages close etc being evacuated , as commented " border skirmish" is pretty accurate at the moment but things could well deteriorate if they is a big incursion or attack....will update next week when back.

Much rather get first hand info like above than the many youtubers based in Thailand who became instant fearmongering drama queens and "experts" whilst living miles away from this geographical area showing thumbnails showing F16 jets flying over BKK and explosion images its just DRAMA FOR CLICKS but makes a change from the tedious plethora of street food and cost of living vlogs.

Fear ye not Tam ..DM n the boy are back safe after our incursion into the war torn red zone .. visited Surin Sisaket and Ubon and Kantanalak which is dark red and never had to take cover once... in fact the most shocking event was when the ring pull broke on my can of Chang and i couldnt open it so head butted the can and it exploded ..luckly i was wearing my anti mine suit and goggles in the roadside twinkly karaoke joint playing hide the sausage.

Det Udom road / HW 24 which runs to whole length Korat to Ubon was very quiet as were the PTT stations , no road check points and only really saw a few army vehicles more than usual.

Cant see the ceasefire lasting and im predicting its gonna get a whole lot messier soon.

For your next report to AAP you might mention the Oil refineries here in Chon Buri are gun shy after the very recent, but not yet explained, small explosion at the old ESSO plant and have rapidly lifted their security status from 1 to 2. Coincidence or not?
They are utilizing the latest detection methods on the main refinery entrances. rapidly deploying those mirrors on wheels for under vehicles checks that were in recent years so effectively rolled out by security at the Udon Thani airport.
