Victory over Genocide Day
5th Jan.26: Please note that Wednesday, 7th January, is a public holiday in Cambodia. Official departments will be closed, as will some businesses. However, Malls, bars and restaurants, etc. will almost certainly be open as usual.
This is in remembrance of the fall of the brutal Khmer Rouge Regime on this day in 1979

Applied for my Cambodia e-Arrival through https://arrival.gov.kh/ yesterday and received the QR Code response the same day.
Applied for my Cambodia e-visa through https://www.evisa.gov.kh/ yesterday afternoon and received the e visa approval this morning.
No issue, what so ever. Very efficient

Landed yesterday, both on Bangkok in the early morning and Phnom Penh late at night
Absolutely no issues what so ever at either Airport

Many thanks for that, good to know that in and out by air remains without difficulty.pipoz4444 wrote: January 9, 2026, 7:28 pm Landed yesterday, both on Bangkok in the early morning and Phnom Penh late at night

I'm looking forward to making a trip to Udon, but as Air Asia requires upwards of $200 for the return trip, I'll wait for the land borders to open, but goodness knows when that will be.
Best wishes to all from a rather chilly Kampot

Yes Ken, I think they have pushed the flight prices up a bit.Fuzzy Ken wrote: January 11, 2026, 7:47 amMany thanks for that, good to know that in and out by air remains without difficulty.pipoz4444 wrote: January 9, 2026, 7:28 pm Landed yesterday, both on Bangkok in the early morning and Phnom Penh late at night

On recent trips I have chosen to fly Air Cambodia. Service is very good, planes look new and they have an excellent luggage allowance of 7 Kg carry on and 32 kg in cargo.
On another note, I went to get new eyeglasses (although they are not glass these days, plastic lenses). Very hard to find an Optical Shop that offers glass lenses or will even try to source them for you, now days.
Went to few shops. Now my eyesight is bad, so I am not one for standard readily available lenses. First three shops advised me it would take 2 weeks to get the lenses in-stock and I was only looking for reading glasses, not for my long sighted distance.
Last shop was in Street 110 Duan Penh (Optical Shop 101 Phsar Chas).Girl tested my eyes and told me exactly what a optometrist specialist in Qatar told me 3 months ago. Then she said they have the lenses in the shop for my reading prescription and it will take a day, and I could collect them tomorrow.
For 2 pair with frames, I only paid $270 (130 a pair). Fantastic price, all smiles.

Opticians in Phnom Penh
I recommend visiting Lach Bun Ann Optics.
They are on Street 199 just south of the Olympic Stadium
Find them on Google Maps
I found their service excellent and prices very reasonable
I needed prescription reading glasses a couple of years ago. They charged me $25 and a 30-minute wait on a very comfortable settee. Job done. They even gave me a bottle of water!
