To begin to help one might need a few questions answered:
1. Are you an author and trying to upload your latest works to be self-published on Amazon?
2. Are you using the term upload when you actually mean download from the internet?
2a. Are you attempting to download an Amazon Kindle eBook to your Mac?
2b. Are you attempting to download an Amazon Audible audio book to your Mac?
2c. Are you attempting to upload a folder of .mp3 or .m4v files of a pirated Audio book to your Mac from a thumbdrive?
3. If number 2a or 2b are true, which web browser are you using? Chrome, Firefox or Safari?
4. Are you attempting to upload and read an eBook in .pdf format on your Mac from a thumb drive or portable drive?
5. Are you attempting to upload an eBook in .MOBI or .EPUB format on your Mac from a thumb drive or portable drive?
5a. If 5 is true, which eReader are you using and which account are you refering to?

I think starting with answers to those questions, someone on this forum may be able to help.

From ChatGPT 5o (in case it helps) as I am not directly familiar with your issues:

If you’d like to upload a self-published book on Amazon as an author using a Mac, here’s a clear step-by-step guide using the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform. I’ll also include Mac-specific tips so the process is smoother.

1. Prepare everything in advance

Before you log in to KDP, make sure you have:

Your manuscript fully edited and formatted (for eBook, print, or both).
adventureandthegirl.com

Your book cover designed, in the correct size/format (front cover for eBook; front + back + spine for print).

Metadata ready: book title, subtitle (if any), author name (or pen name), description/blurb, keywords, categories.

Bank/billing/tax information (you’ll need to set this up in your KDP account).

If doing print version: decide trim size, paper type, color vs black & white, whether bleed, etc.

Mac-specific tip: Use Preview, Pages, or Microsoft Word/LibreOffice on your Mac to check your PDF/manuscript. For cover design you can use tools like Affinity Designer, Adobe Illustrator, or Canva (web-based) on the Mac.

2. Sign in or set up your KDP account

Go to kdp.amazon.com
and sign in with your Amazon account (or create one).
Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing

Complete your author/publisher profile: indicate you’re an individual or company, fill in name, address, tax details, etc.

Set your payment (bank) information so you’ll get royalties.

3. Choose your format: eBook and/or print

You’ll decide whether you are publishing:

An eBook (Kindle format)

A paperback (print-on-demand)

A hardcover (if KDP supports it in your region)

KDP makes it easy to publish in one or more of these formats.

4. Create your book listing in KDP

In your KDP dashboard, click “Bookshelf” → “+ Create” and select eBook, paperback or hardcover.

For eBook:

Fill in Book details: language, title, subtitle, edition, series, author(s).

Upload your manuscript file (KDP recommends EPUB for eBooks) and cover image.

Preview how the book will look in Kindle reader.

Upload any additional materials (front matter, back matter, etc).

For Paperback:

In “Paperback Details”: same essential metadata plus indicate if suitable for children under 18 (if applicable).

In “Paperback Content”: upload interior manuscript (often PDF) with correct page layout, margins, bleed; upload cover (can use KDP’s cover creator or upload your own).

In “Paperback Rights & Pricing”: set territories, list price, royalty, maybe request proof copy.

5. Set your pricing & royalties

For eBooks: KDP offers two royalty options (typically 35% or 70%) depending on list price, file size, and distribution region.
Reedsy

For print books: your royalty depends on printing cost, list price, distribution channels.

Choose whether you want global rights or selected territories.

If you want your eBook enrolled in KDP Select (which requires exclusivity), decide here.

6. Review, proof and publish

Use the Previewer tool in KDP to check how your book will appear on Kindle devices/print.

Make sure the layout is correct: margins, page breaks, table of contents (especially for eBook), cover spine alignment (for print).

Once everything is checked, click Publish. For print, you might choose to order a proof copy before full release.

After submission your book goes into review; typically it can appear on Amazon in up to about 72 hours.

7. After publication: monitor and promote

Use your KDP dashboard to track sales, royalties, and update metadata if needed.

Promote your book: use social media, email list, author website, Amazon Advertising, etc.

You can update files (manuscript, cover), metadata (keywords, categories) in future if desired.

8. Special Mac-focused tips

When formatting your document: using Pages or Word on Mac, export to PDF for print version. Make sure fonts are embedded.

For eBook: consider exporting to EPUB format using tools like Calibre (runs on Mac) or Pages export.

Use Preview on Mac to check PDF bleed/margins for print version.

If your cover is designed in Illustrator or Affinity Designer, export at high resolution (300 dpi) and save as PDF or JPEG as required by KDP.

Keep all your source files and backups in iCloud or an external drive (Time Machine) so you can update later.

Thank you for such detailed information. It is appreciated.
The book was written using TextEdit and polished using Claude AI. The finished book, in 13 separate chapters, was then downloaded and printed on A4.
The Book cover image was also used in the same way and downloaded. So Page or Word is not used. Would that mean I would have to rewrite using Page?

Humm. Not sure but I suppose importing to the most ubiquitous Word processor (Word in .docx format) may help with the import/export capabilities which may be an issue in your case. I don’t think I would bother with Page as it’s such an unused app in the real world its less likely to work well. Now, if you are not a Word user, that may not be the end of the world. Pages may be able to import a .txt then export to .doc or .docx to fit your needs since if you are in a text file the formatting is likely limited. No experience here, but logically it should work. And then Libra Office, OpenOffice and WPS Office are available for free and *may* be able to import text and export to Word with some compatability as well as Google Docs (online only using web browser).

I guess I always stick to real world Business computer products so I may see this with a bit of a bias. MS Office on a PC always makes for the most compatible documents, spreadsheets and power point slides and especially the Outlook email app. A guy can work with 99% of the companies in my world using proper MS Office for Windows. Word for Mac is likely just fine unless you have macros built in it. From what you said so far this is unlikely. It's not free, so there is that but for like a hundred bucks a year, you can have five computer licenses and two phone licences plus a 1TB OneDrive cloud storage account which may or may not be useful to you. Really depends on your own use case. As an author its just a little strange to me that you don't use Word already but that may be my business background raising its less diverse head. 555.

Bonus Tip: Using Excel on a Mac does not allow for VB Macros. This is a giant issue for actual Excel power users as macros have been kind of part of most advance spreadsheets. If 'Office Scripts' ever become popular, of course we will all need to re-compile or have AI re-write our macros but, then we live long and prosper witb both of the most popular OS's and possibly even Google on one planet.

Let's see if any of these tidbits help your quest.

Thank you for your help. I've discovered the book is a non-editable PDF, although I could edit it before downloading. I need someone to upload the book, front cover, and back cover to KDP. I'm hoping someone will be able to assist me.

I sent a PM (Its always a mystery to me to know that it actually went/arrived with this PHP BBS). In any case, if you want to send the .PDF to me as an email attachment, I will do my best to convert it to .EPUB for you and return it.
