Storm

Post by rick »

Just experienced worst wind storm since the one about 10 years ago which knocked the power out in many parts of Udon for days (and removed many a roof). Dying down now, time to find where all the boxes, cooking pots, clothes and other assorted bric-a-brac ended up. Unfortunately Yai was not blown away like Dorothy. Wife cleaning up her shop, time to go out and assess any damage, but we have got off lightly i think.

We have a phase missing on our brand new power lines. Have lights but no fans, fridges or aircons.

The house is deserted as everyone has gone frogging.

Hit Ban Dung around 3.30pm, and power off for an hour from 4.00pm.

Certainly was a doozy, and a welcome start for those who have dry seeded their rice crop.

Indeed it did get a tad breezy here on the West side blowing the whipped cream off my freshly made sherry trifle.

Just seen on the local news the full force of the storm was a direct hit on Bang Dung with amphur officials estimating upwards of 30 million bahts worth of improvements... BDD is searching for his syrup and Jacksplatt is still collecting his washing from the surrounding waste lands , JSP being distraught having lost his favourite pair of antique Y fronts and the 3 clothes pegs he brought with him from Australia when in his teens.

Praying for Ban Dung [-o<

The missing phase was restored around 1 am this morning. I know this for a fact as the bloody frogs had kept me awake!!!

Strange you should mention that, DM. --- After visiting my Mum in QLD, Aust. back in the very early 2000's, Mrs Dero bought back 3 dozen Australian wooden clothes pegs with her/us and too this day we still have most of them in good working order. MUCH better than the cheap, plastic Chinese crap available here = 1 year in the sun and they're knackered. [-(

P.S. News from home = Mild storm with no reported damage or outages in down town Ban Sai Mun, Ban Dung. =D>

I had heard fables about the indistructable Aussie clothes pegs but thought it was just the usual my didjereedoo is bigger than yours ..

Any news on Jack rumour is hes still hasnt called off the search as by all accounts one sock and a knotted hanky are still missing.

Remember folks in Ban Dung a bar of soap and a clothes peg is for life not just for Christmas !!

Well, been 2 more this week. ON Monday evening it rained a little bit for a while, but then came down heavy for a long time. Some wind. Next day buckets, tanks and ponds up about 15 cm. My small fish farm, partially dry, water levels went up over 50 cms due to runoff. not likely to dry out until next year now.

Yesterday while i was out had a severe wind storm. Got back, and because of the heavy rain 2 days before, quite a few trees have blown over - including a massive mango tree which had brought down power lines to houses of 2 family members. Elsewhere mangoes all over the ground and nearly every pot plant knocked over, awnings broken and next door a metal post 5cm square was bent over before its awning gave way. Part of veg garden looked like an elephant had sat on it. Various neighbours doing roof repairs. Worst since the big storm about 10 years ago that flattened lots of power lines, brought down many trees and damaged many a roof all over Udon.

Update = with water drained away, went to inspect garden fully. 3 solar lights damaged - one the pole had blown over, 2nd the metal strap fixing it to the pole had sheared, also solar panel had also been torn off. 3rd found the front half of the solar panel, back disappeared! the actual metal frame from the panel is a twisted wreck but still attached to a metal girder. Some wind!

Big mango tree removed and power to other houses restored (it helps when your nieces boyfriend works for the PEA). Now just need to get my 3 battery operated fans back from sister-in-law.
