Looks like Pete has spent too many hours in this campaign studying the Yatala pie wagon, rather than the polls. :D

Of course, it could just be a nod to the world's most prolific golf cheater.

Can't get my head around this federal government who have shuttered oil and gas exploration nationwide at the same time as they failed to approve a huge wind farm offshore from the energy-starved Vic.

I guess it's all about the coal then?

Hmmm...... :-k
SYDNEY, July 23 (Reuters) - Australia on Tuesday announced new offshore gas exploration permits for its east and west coast markets in a bid to ease concerns over long-term supply gaps as the country moves rapidly away from its dependence on coal-fired power stations.
Australia considers gas a critical element in its transition to cleaner energy with the centre-left Labor government in May backing long-term gas drilling despite its plans to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

SYDNEY, May 9 (Reuters) - Australia's Labor government on Thursday laid out a strategy to boost natural gas development even as it remains committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2050, highlighting demand from key Asian trade partners.
Australia is one of the world's largest exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG), and Resources Minister Madeline individual said gas would be needed "through to 2050 and beyond" in the global shift to cleaner energy.

Both from only a year ago, so this must be something new you speak of.

From July last year, so not all that new.

https://www.minister.industry.gov.au/mi ... mic%20data.

Scroll to the bottom and the last two paragraphs.

There's more to oil and gas exploration than simply poking holes in the seabed. Seismic surveys are what oil companies use to de-risk exploration plays. It is faster and cheaper than drilling wildcat wells with fingers crossed.

However, those of the green and/or teal persuasion, who helped the incumbent government to power, like to call it "seismic blasting" and yack about totally unrelated whale groundings while the indigenous claim it breaks their "song lines" and makes Crocodile Man angry.

One player has been served with a five-year exploration licence that, in lieu of killing whales (it doesn't), mandates two years of legacy seismic data reprocessing, followed by one year of geotechnical and other extremely limited methods of peeking below the subsurface. Then another year for interpretation of the sparse results from the above. After this, in their fifth and final year, they are allowed to drill one, just ONE exploration well. If it's a duster, tough titty but thanks for p(l)aying.

That's a bit like Bob Monkhouse's "The Golden Shot" and "Bernie...the bolt!"

How's this guy's form?
A councilor from Wagga Wagga running for some obscure "tree hugging - hand wringing" political party in the Riverina.

Obviously not expecting many votes. :fryingpan: =D>

Good lord, Dero - you may be the last person on earth using the expression
tree hugging - hand wringing
Time to leap into the 21st century, and if you are trying to label left-wingers, "woke" is the contemporary, off-target insult.

In any case, I suggest the Australian Citizens Party - which the unfortunate Mr Foley represents - is far from what you are suggesting. A two second look at his photo is a dead giveaway.

Based on their history, and platform, they would give Pauline a good run for her money, as nearly the most extreme right-wing party running in the election.

Hey BD, it's very, very real and not just downundah. Look at the national pillockry that's just played out in the UK's local council, mayoral and single parliamentary by-election.

Lemmings.

As a result of Labor's landslide, there's a bit more optimism emanating from some Australians currently attending this year's SEAPEX industry convention in Singapore. They expect a bit more flexibility and pragmatism with regard to oil and gas exploration, since the Teal's won't be needed to bolster this new government.
