Australia Election 2025

Post by jackspratt »

Ooops!

Two term Albo forging ahead.
YouGov modelling shows swing back to Labor with majority government potentially in reach

In short:

Modelling shows Labor ahead in 10 seats where it was behind six weeks ago, putting it in a stronger position to form government.

The research also found Labor at 50.2 per cent of the vote in national two-party preferred terms, with the Coalition on 49.8 per cent.

Australian oil and gas industry insiders and leaders anticipate a Labor win. Their main concern is whether the current restrictions and prohibitions on fossil fuel exploration and extraction (except coal), will deepen under a Labor second term.

I'm currently in Australia but not at all enthusiastic about this election. The early forecasts are for a Labor lead "Hung Parliament". IMHO the major Australian political parties are currently very much like the US = Rudderless.

It's the voter that's rudderless in the middle, hence the politicians encouragement to go either full bore left or full bore right to win. All this just to galvanise a mostly unhappy and disaffected electorate that increasingly feels that there are no alternatives to extremism, no middle ground.

It's not a uniquely Australian affliction either.

Australian mainstream politics sits between centre left to centre right, despite what the Sky News mob would have you believe.

Hopefully it stays that way, and we never have to worry about "full bore".

As for Dero's suggestion, I can't see a role in current politics for the Oz ambassador in Washington.

My comment had nothing to do with Kevin Rudd [-X . "Rudderless" is how I perceive the major party leadership is at right now! Both here and in the USA. :-#

Things are certainly looking up for 2 term Albo.

Soaring in the polls, and then this bit of reverse-gear politics from the (not really) Liberals (sic).
Coalition abandons 'end' to work from home, walks back 41,000 job cuts

In short:

The Coalition has made a mid-campaign decision to dump its promise to force public servants to return to the office.

Shadow finance minister Jane Hume said the party had listened to concerns.

What's next?

An elected Dutton government would also not pursue 41,000 job cuts through forced redundancies, instead shrinking the public service through natural attrition.

Nary a dickie-bird about the great big loony nuclear power policy, and as cream on the cake, the association the conservatives have with the very, very unpopular White House criminal.

I wonder how Sky News are going to cover all that bad news. 🤣

The final nail in Voldemort's electoral coffin - 2 term Albo saves Vegemite. 👍

Sad state of affairs when a political party is relying on Vegemite to enhance their electoral standings. No disrespect to Vegemite mind you!

Certainly is sad when the only thing he can boast about is Vegemite.

Even sadder when the only thing you can ping him on is having a win - which of course, he will more than likely be doing again, in just over a week from now.

"1 term Albo" seems to have mysteriously disappeared from the conservative lexicon. :-k

In the likelihood of a minority government, Marles will have to step aside to make room for Adam Bant from the Greens as the Deputy Prime Minister. The same Adam Bant who Albanese is recorded as stating the Labor Party would not enter into a minority government with and now has openly stated that he will form a minority government with the greens. God help Australia should this happen.
