You should view the video on the DLT website before going . The lady at first was going to make me go upstairs and view the video. But I showed her the certificate and all she did was have me ascertain a few colors and then just go get picture taken.
Be sure and wear a sleeved shirt. Also, they don't seem to like shorts and sandals.
They speak very little English.
Thanks for this, Charlie. I've let a friend of mine know (who was spot-fined and turned back after trying my road to KK recommendation).

Possibly suggestions only. YMMV.

I have been to Nong Han DLT on several occasions, each time dressed in golf shirt, shorts and sandals, all without incident.

As usual Thais wiĺl not challege. But, the DLT web site, under required documents, says sleeved shirt, long pants and no sandals. I would hate to go there and run into the one Thai that wants to enforce the rules. Each person has to do their own thing.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to obtain the medical certificate that is required for the driving licence renewal from the clinic between AEK and Talad Nong Bua?
If not, any recommendations?
TIA

Same here. Given that its basically a head only (passport style) photo what's the point in no shorts or sandals. [-X

The point is that you are being respectful of the ladies and gentlemen in the DLT office and their position as public officials.

Of course they are too polite to call you out, however you are storing up bad will towards disrespectful foreigners. The Nong Han DLT staff have been, probably continue to be polite and helpful, in the future who knows! There are certainly offices that are openly hostile to foreigners even with a Thai speaker along to assist.

I know we are getting off topic here but I remember back to the time when we had to goto Nong Khai (before the Udon office opened) to do our extension of stay etc. and confront that arsehole "Mr. Happy" (sat at the bottom-right of the office). Me, well dressed with Mrs Dero in silks or her Puai Baan uniform did not matter, he was still an arsehole.

He was an arsehole to you, politely dressed, I can only imagine how much more difficult he was to those less politely dressed.

Search this forum going back to mid 2005 and the original Udon Map forum to 2002 one could find enough antigdotes to write a book on Mr Happy. He was posted into Udon's 1st Imm office at the airport for a while.

From what experience are you asserting your outlandish opinions from. The officials have a working dress code (part of their contract). I see SEA girls in very short shorts, SEA men in shorts and football tops in both IO and DLT offices. I personally would ban any MU tops from entering my place of work but I am just a Farang who never seems to be treated in a lesser fashion than the booted and suited brigade. I personally have never felt that my dress code or lack of garlic and chilli breath has ever resulted in an inferior service.
Perhaps you need to dial down your opinions now that you have the MAGA Man backing you.

Lightening things up just a little, if MU does translate to Manchester United, I'd certainly agree with that.

It does and I'm a Jock.
How can anyone state his opinion is how Thai's actually feel about a Falang in shorts and sandals. Jeez.

FYI. Just read on Thaiger that the Thai Government has passed a law to allow driver's license renewal on line for "able bodied" people. They did not define what able bodied meant. I assumed there will probably be an age limit. In any case, they say once the law is finalized it will take more than 45 days to start. I would not not expect anything before end of year.

I'm halfway through my renewal. I was tempted to go to Nong Han, but opted again for my very local Phen Office.
Intended as a preliminary check to determine what was needed, I was pleased my wife came along. I don't know if it's my age (very nearly 75), or the fact I had a new passport since the last renewal, but the girl said I must get the Immigration letter confirming my passport and address. Sounded like red tape because I had my passport with fairly recent extension and my yellow house book. Also wanted a medical certificate. Apparently, watching the English version of a video was necessary, but the girl advised I could do it online at home - done. Certificate printed out that the video was run start to finish. Practical tests tomorrow, when I'm always concerned about my colour blindness. I certainly cannot make out all numbers from the coloured dot tests (whatever the proper name is), but the last time the guy pointed to individual dots, which I could name the colour. Well, I've been driving here 24 years without, touch wood, an accident caused by me, so think I manage traffic lights etc ok.
Incidentally, Immigration wanted 500 baht for the letter. They're more than keeping pace with inflation, because I can remember the rate was 200. The officer said "no receipt", so I responded with "no payment". I suppose there's a wealth of words I might use - let's just say that I'm amazed that with a 'No Gifts Policy' notice prominently displayed at the Information Desk a few paces away, Officers still have the nerve, audacity to keep straight faces. A few inter-Officer whispers and sure my ears were burning as I left. Perhaps I'll give a New Year box of beer to the refuse collectors in lieu.

I went through something similar last year. The medical certificate can be a hassle with the same-day rule. The app education is new info, though, so good to know for future renewals. Just make sure to double-check expiration dates, sometimes they don’t mention everything until you’re there
