0.2% infection rate may be a bit of a stretch to call a big epidemic, Dd.

Re: Outbreak of Flu
Got absolutely drenched in heavy rain and flooding in Bangkok Tuesday .. Wed/Thurs started coming down with the flu so hit my go to supply of TIFFY tablets still not 100% but certainly help relieving symptoms.
Its that time of year with weather conditions ideal for the spread of flu etc so mask up, stop drinking from bottles, kissing strangers and licking lamp posts.

Re: Outbreak of Flu
Has the common cold been cured?
It's always the flu these days. Big Pharma certainly have us indoctrinated to pump medication into our bodies.
At work we 2 foreigners sit with 12 Thai engineers 7am each morning for a POD and they, all of a sudden, have started wearing masks again for no real logical reason, other than superstition. They are not showing symptoms of anything.
We advise constantly, if you are ill, stop spreading the bug, go home to bed and rest, don't sit here with a mask.

Re: Outbreak of Flu
Got it at the moment. Worst part is head being squashed in a vice, body feels like it's been run over by a truck, and the sweating and waking in a wet blanket. Day 4 and Im now on antibiotics as a chest infection starting. The only worrying thing is you have to be careful with chest infections here, can soon be pneumonia and that's not good. So antibiotics before it gets bad. It's also the second time since Christmas.

The Thai health ministry issued an advisory related to the PM2.5 air pollution issue. Spontaneous mask wearing has nothing to do with flu or superstition.Barney wrote: February 22, 2025, 8:17 am Has the common cold been cured?

"The rate at which children are being hospitalized for the flu has skyrocketed to 145 percent since the start of the year, leaving doctors concerned.
The number of kids admitted to the hospital for influenza has jumped from 959 on January 4 to 2,348 on February 1, according to a report from the American Academy of Pediatrics."

Re: Outbreak of Flu
People who received a flu vaccine for the 2024-2025 flu season had a 27% higher risk of getting the flu than those who didn’t get the vaccine.
The study reviewed 53,402 employees of the Cleveland Clinic.
Yet another vaccine that is not efficacious.

Re: Outbreak of Flu
What your usual tripe nonsense does not state is that the flu vaccine gives you flu but a very mild dose of it. Therefor your immune system is better prepared to fight off the real flu virus without experiencing the worst of the symptoms.Declan MacPherson wrote: April 9, 2025, 8:56 am People who received a flu vaccine for the 2024-2025 flu season had a 27% higher risk of getting the flu than those who didn’t get the vaccine.

When are people going to realise the deniers are absolutely wrong in their half arsed claims.
Re: Outbreak of Flu
Have you read the actual study? The authors provided additional information which may be relevant:Declan MacPherson wrote: April 9, 2025, 8:56 amPeople who received a flu vaccine for the 2024-2025 flu season had a 27% higher risk of getting the flu than those who didn’t get the vaccine.
The study reviewed 53,402 employees of the Cleveland Clinic.
Yet another vaccine that is not efficacious.
• The study did not include any infants (whose immune system is not up to full strength yet) or older people (who are more likely to have underlying health conditions), -- only people who were employed at the Cleveland Clinic.
• There are several different vaccines, and only one was tested in this study. The authors admit that other vaccines may have been more effective.
• Not everyone was tested, and while the study authors tried to correct for this statistically, it's only a statistical correction, not actual data. People who are less likely to be tested may also be less likely to report infection, as the study says.
• Some participants in the study were not tested at the clinic, rather they self-reported the results of self-testing at home. These people may be less likely to report infection.
• The study measured only whether or not participants were infected, not the severity of the infection.
And before we reach conclusions about whether or not flu vaccines are effective, let's not overlook the actual numbers:
43,857 Cleveland Clinic employees were vaccinated for the study.
1,079 got the flu.
With no evidence that the vaccine caused any harm, I'll still take it. I'm in the cohort of older people, so the study isn't directly relevant to me. And it only tested one of many vaccines. And, as the study pointed out, the flu virus changes from year to year, -- this study tested only one vaccine, which purported to offer protection from only one strain of the virus, in one flu season. I would want to see a broader study before I concluded that flu vaccines are ineffectual. And if the vaccine can reduce the severity of an infection (an issue not addressed by the study), then, at least by my standards, it's effective.

Absolutely UM, both my parents started to take advantage of the free UK NHS vaccination programme against the annual flu bug in their 60's.Udon Map wrote: April 9, 2025, 10:04 am

Both admitted to feeling a bit under the weather for a few days after the inoculations but never once did they develop full blown symptoms of winter flu that claims many lives each year.
Both my parents lived long lives
Dad 87 and mum 92 and both had weakened their chest immune systems with heavy smoking since pre-teen years.
For me the deniers are just putting peoples lives at risk with their continual conspiracy theories.

Certain Asian nationalities have now been conditioned by their respective governments, to wear the cheap paper face masks, at any cost, whether they themselves know that they have the flu or not. More often, they are just donning on the cheap mask, reacting to some media outlet informing them of a possible / pending flu outbreak.
Whilst these cheaper type mask may have some limited value and may help others from catching your germs, especially if you have the flu and are prone to coughing over others, the effectiveness of these paper masks in limiting transmission where one catches the flu form another is still questionable (particle size and the like). I am sure people have views either way.
Quoting from Google: "Adults can shed influenza virus 1 day before symptoms appear and up to approximately 5 to 7 days after onset of illness". Buy the time you know you are infected, you have potentially spread the flu to 100 others.

Personally I don't not to live in a world where worry about every little issue, such a catching the every day flu,(but to take sensible precautions and do respect others). There are a lot more serious things that can take you out.
Nevertheless I looked around at mask options and decided not to buy the style below when riding the BTS
However, I may get one of these for the next ride on the BTS
That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.
