Spicey! Don't agree with all of this guy has to say but worth the seconds if only for entertainment:

Some very good points, particularly about the US constitution, a 250 year old impediment to progress that preserves norms that may have been applicable in 1770 but damned stupid, getting more and more out of touch as the years go bye. For reference this guy has been a vehement critic of Trump over the years.

Polls one year out from an election have not been a good indicator of the final result, and the polls themselves have flaws.

He is dead right when he raises Biden's initial promise to be a transitional President, as I said in a previous post, God help America, they need as much help as they can get, even from an imaginary friend in the sky.

An interesting and thoughtful opinion piece from today's New York Time raises what are quite obvious questions about 2024.
Opinion

Guest Essay

By Thomas B. Edsall

Brian Klaas, a political scientist at University College London, captured the remarkable nature of the 2024 presidential election in an Oct. 1 essay, “The Case for Amplifying Trump’s Insanity.”

Klaas argued that the presidential contest now pits

a 77-year-old racist, misogynist bigot who has been found liable for rape, who incited a deadly, violent insurrection aimed at overturning a democratic election, who has committed mass fraud for personal enrichment, who is facing 91 separate counts of felony criminal charges against him and who has overtly discussed his authoritarian strategies for governing if he returns to power

against “an 80-year-old with mainstream Democratic Party views who sometimes misspeaks or trips.”

“One of those two candidates,” Klaas noted, “faces relentless newspaper columns and TV pundit ‘takes’ arguing that he should drop out of the race. (Spoiler alert: It’s somehow not the racist authoritarian sexual abuse fraudster facing 91 felony charges.)”

Trump still has his devoted followers. In Bangkok Bank in Central today, spotted a farang wearing a t-shirt from infowars.com. on the front a pic and the words

2016 Nancy Pelosi Jail

No doubt a treasured piece of MAGA apparel.

Further to my post a couple above, is this the language of a rational person - who you would trust with his fingers on the nuclear buttons?

It's a reaction I would expect from Trump cultists.

Tam, joking right?

Trump pushing hard, he wants to be jailed. Violence on the streets is looming, part of his playbook. He is dumb as dog $h1t, but crafty and strangely savvy.

I for one have underestimated the guy.

I am sorry, I should have asked to see Monica Lewinsky. And how long did that Presidential affair last, from memory about 18 months.

2016: Trump won because Clinton was rubbish

2020: Biden won because Trump was rubbish.

It will be just further indication that the supposed beacon of world democracy is a failing state.

For all it's economic greatness and world leader status, developmentally the USA is still a child. They've had their War of Independence and their Civil War but they still haven't graduated and had their Revolution yet.

Watch this space.
