Installing True Money App

Post by Khun Paul » November 15, 2023, 2:35 pm

A question to those who have knowledge.
I was intending to install True Money App as a few Thai friends who work for me occasionally needed to be paid through this app.
I went to install it on the Phone, BUT stopped when it asked for a picture of my Passport Identification Page, which would also show my passport number. So I stopped the installation rapidly.

Anyone know if this is a SAFE app or should one be wary. My passport information if not for my bank, immigration etc is sacrosanct.

Any intelligent comments would be welcome , I can pop down to the nearest 7-11 to do this but that takes time, and money .

I don't have direct knowledge of the True Money App however I do know many institutions go through great lengths now to insure they KYC (Know Your Customer) so I would think just the passport copy is only a slight inconvenience but only if you know it is who you think it is. Good plan to see what other say that have actual experience with True Pay but I suppose it's much like Samsung Pay, Google Pay, Apple Pay etc.

Just a thought: We send and receive tens of payments daily both to and from using the Prompt Pay facility associated with one account each. I think its per person or number (as far as I know it's just one per phone number). Mine is with SCB my wife's is with Bangkok Bank. Fast and free. Really came into heavy usage during the Covid scare. You might have seen the QR codes presented at shops/bars/restaurants to encourage contactless payment. I'm going to guess your friends have PP setup to their phone number but if not just their bank account number and bank name should do it.

Thankyou for all; the answers. I spoke to KTB help desk they inofrmed me I could access through their app. How polite and helpful they were. So no need to advertise my Passport details over a mobile phone
