Thanks for highlighting an apparent lack of restraint of trade clauses in use when purchasing a business in Thailand. In a technical sense, a ROT clause whilst written into a contract of sale has no impact if the purchaser, after stumping up the money to make the purchase, does not have the funds to sue for the breach. I guess the ‘let the buyer be aware’ phrase still rings true in any commercial contract irrespective of any undertaking given during the negotiation phase. It is a timely reminder for me personally as l am in a commercial negotiation at the moment.
ROFLMAO. Honestly, this "advice" offered to those actually living here in the land where 7 elevens feature every quarter mile or so?

Restraint of trade? Try and sell that protection to the next muppet who willingly puts down key money for a stall in the Day & Night cow shed.

Sheesh...

I always find it odd people buying a business don't research . its always cheaper just to start a new business. The new owners of the T-bar have been scrapping menus and changing things so in reality even if Steve opens a new place what would it matter ? Customer base will be different anyway. Last week they got rid of Sunday lunches , menus have changed so obviously that has left an opening . Another local place has already started Sunday lunches and is doing very well .
If it ain't broke don't try to fix it .

And to Dunroaming I have always been above the ice over you.

I find this post very amusing and full of absolute BS. I spoke to Steve personally on just this point and after kinowing him for 19 years know that his answer is the truth .
He did suggest that he MIGHT persue his love of cooking at his home of his infamous Sausage Rolls , but as yet not decided. As to the New Bar aforementioned, nothing to do with HIM, he felt that selling the T bar was a decision to allow him to pursue other activities which over the years working in his bars and restaurants eluded him , and I cannot blame him, for once he is doing what he wants not pressured to please his many followers and customers.

As for T-bar changing the Menus, as Dean says, why change a working system, but to each his own, the expanded shop incorporating Cheese to Meet You will be a godsend for some I am sure but apart from the Air-Conditioning the change has , so I am told , ensured an outflowing of dedicated customers to pastures new, nothing to do with the NEW Gossip Bar, which has only just fully opened and to my knowledge is not as yet serving a full menu, but if they do more power to their opportunistic trade foresight . Nothing ventured nothing gained and here as many have pointed out, duplicity in stores selling the same seems to be the norm as the local large open air- market Thai Siri, has TWO 7-11's, Tesco and Big C mini, plus numerous stalls all selling the same rubbish..go figure !!!!!!

Balls? Really? Small minded histrionics aside, you have absolutely no clue about the size of dunroaming's many rooms. The assumption that he's some low-paid TEFL'er will no doubt be met with great mirth by those who know him. I'm sure he'll have a laugh too after he reads your pathetic attempt at being this forum's newest busybody.
Actually Tam he's correct we have small rooms 13 bathrooms in total over the dunroaming homesteads, I do remember in nana the girls used to call me teacher but that was in relation to pool. Anyway Marcus get out of your own small room sorry closet and get a life 😜

Marcus 1 you are so wrong about the fact that Mali is going to get a return out of this. Of course Nong And partner have said that they will pay any money back but do you really think it is going to happen and are we worried, the answer is no.
I don't even know why I am bothering to answer to these posts.
Everything is assumption.

I cannot believe the vindictive, vitriolic spew, aimed at Steve and Mali. If my daughter was opening a restaurant and I had the experience of Mali, I would help. It's family !
You won't meet nicer people in Udon. I've known them for for 15 years. Still see Steve in Makro now and then, always says hello with a big smile. So much malice and antagonism in Udonmap. Get a grp !

A "guest" in another country calling out someone's wife? Yeah, that's not right.

Just goes to show how ignorant people can be. How did you ever get to a one room, teacher Seriously, if your going to abuse , do a wee bit research first. Cannot say too much because I will be told Off Topic.

I was actually going to say that but did not want to cross a line. You are right, it is not healthy to do that.

It makes you wonder why the OP would even post this. Obviously a troll who makes a controversial statement and then lets everyone have an argument about it. Hasn't even the balls to make a further statement apologising to Steve.

I for one welcome another bar/restaurant nearby when I am visiting. It's freedom of choice.

Good luck to Nong in her new venture..

individual George,

Your rebuttal prose was concise and the facts well spoken regarding status of your retirement and level of your business ethics! We both have known for many years about the know-it-all armchair warriors who down a pint and and then start attacking people, places and things with no basis in truth!

Why let the facts get in the way! I have been coming to Udon Thani since 2001 and had the distinct pleasure of meeting you when you had “Steve’s Bar”! After having several different businesses, you earned a reputation of being a smart, accommodating and totally honest individual! There are countless other blokes that I met in Udon in the last 20 years that didn’t burden themselves with such desirable characteristics!

I am happy that you finally hung up your coffee cup and started enjoying retirement! I retired in 1998 and believe me the time goes by fast! Because of the pandemic and other issues, I have not seen my wife in Udon for two years! She got promoted to Major in the City Police and is now based in Nong Khai! Currently, I can come to Thailand but, will be treated like a “COVID Criminal” even though I have gotten two Pfizer vaccine shots and are required to prove I am not infected before entering Thailand!

So, I refuse to be sucked into the Thai government’s quarantine scheme (scam) and be jailed in an over-priced hotel upon arrival! I read where I can fly to Phuket and not be “jailed” but, what good is that if I can’t travel up to UT? The Minister of Tourism says all of Thailand will be open to tourists with no quarantine in January 2021! I hope the government beats that date before more businesses fail from no customers!

Looking forward to seeing you hopefully in the near future Steve! You’re still an individual!

Steve,

For some reason, UdonMap is word-smithing my last email to you adding the word “ individual” both in the salutation and at the end of my text!

Disregard!

Jon

Correction: I meant Thailand will supposedly be open to all tourists in “January 2022! Coming up on 77 years old finds me making a few more mistakes!

Called in there yesterday and spoke with Ning and Mali.
Mali is purely there to set up the Kitchen and to train some staff to do the cooking,

Like Steve said he is retired and all this bulls**t about setting up in competition is rubbish.
.
Mali said she is now getting too old and wants to retire 100% with Steve.
Ning hopes to have a full menu including Sunday roast etc. by next month.

The bar is quite large & fully air conditioned with a nice shaded area outside with tables for smoking.
It is only about 60 meters off the Ringroad and quite a distance from T Bar.

Damn dude, just adding fuel to the fire. Sometimes it's just best to shut the hell up and let well enough alone.

Well that's good, you got your edit in before I responded to it.
