The annual Songkran festival next month will be allowed to stimulate tourism and the economy as COVID-19 vaccines are now available.
Culture Minister Itthiphol Kunplome said the ministry supported the return of traditional and cultural activities that were part of the festival before the pandemic struck.
He said however, there must be strict disease control measures in place, including social distancing and limits on the number of people at venues where activities are planned.

It appears that the errant Patient X in the UK with the more virulent Brazilian variant has been tracked down after 5 days.
'Patient X' , who is infected with the highly infectious P1 strain of coronavirus, has been found after a five-day nationwide hunt.
The hunt for the mystery patient had been narrowed down to 379 households in the south-east of England, the Health Secretary revealed on Wednesday.
Six people in the UK have now tested positive for the P1 variant, but 'Patient X' had not provided their contact details and so could not be reached, sparking a massive search by healthcare and Government personnel.

Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
Looking at my Facebook page this morning this popped up, Quarantine Restrictions on Holiday resorts. I read a report by Mr Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn a Minister suggesting to Tourism ministers to look at the Quarantined destinations such as Phuket, Surat Thani, Patayya, Krabi etc. This was ridiculed by many posters as the usual stupid ideas peddled out to solve there tourist industry already suffering from over 395 billion baht losses incurred by last years tourism collapse due to the Pandemic, and the possibility of Thai Airways calling in the receivers to claim for bankruptcy. One poster from America posted he had just come out of his Hotel in Bkk where he had been Quarantined for 14 days, and on his way out he asked a member of the Hotel staff if she and her Colleagues at the Hotel had been tested regularly for Covid 19. She responded No she and most of the specially named Quarantined Hotel staff had not been tested. He suggested ok so your not tested yet your free to go home unaware you could transmit covid to family or friends you come into contact. Im afraid if they do not start seriously thinking of ways to save there Tourism industry for this year there ship already sinking is going to go down. Its not a case of if its more when.
Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
If all the SQ/ASQ guests have been safely bottled up in their rooms and latterly segrated in exclusive exercise areas, where is the risk of infection to the hotel staff? SQ/ASQ hotel staff are NOT health workers. The Covid testing of those in quarantine is administered by health professionals with appropriate guidelines and PPE.vlad wrote: ↑March 6, 2021, 4:31 pm. ... Apart from that, I suggest that ANY country that plays fast and loose with the health of their population just for the sake of being able to claim that their country is open to tourism is playing a dangerous game. The over-hyped Covid passport, travel corridors, tourist bubbles and other nonsense doesn't address the coronavirus's ability to mutate as has been recently witnessed in the UK and other countries.
The tourist industry has already been decimated here but if just one cluster is attributed to some Covid passport carrying, vaccinated golfer, I can't see any enticement that will encourage more people to come.
Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
So how would you solve the tourist problem and save them billions this year again in lost tourism Tamada, and how wiuld you prevent Thai airways going bust. Like 1 poster said " come on kids" wsre off for 2 weeks to thailand dont bothed packing yohr beach gear we dont need it were in a locked in Hotel for 2 weeks then we are home again. On the other hand kids we can go to Cyprus where we will notbe quarentined. Is it sinking in Tamada what the thai goverment needs to do to open up for tourists?
Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
Thailand drops the quarantine and people come but infection rates start to increase again. Then a few tourists test positive after they return to their home countries. Within the month Thailand goes on the sh*t list meaning everyone needs to quarantine on returning home, ie. they need an extra couple of weeks off work AFTER their fortnight in Thailand. Holiday bookings drop off a cliff.vlad wrote: ↑March 6, 2021, 7:06 pmSo how would you solve the tourist problem and save them billions this year again in lost tourism Tamada, and how wiuld you prevent Thai airways going bust. Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
Instead of worrying about me jack why don't you join in the thread instead of having a go at me or brit bashing again. I will ask you and Tamada again how you go forward to entice tourists to THAILAND again and why are thai airways on the brink of bancrupcy? Do not mention a fellow member or his country stick to the questions. On the hotel in bkk i can only tell you the hotel staff were not tested when the question was asked by that guest at that hotel.
Re: Corona Virus / COVID-19 Important Information
^ I've already given you a scenario where Thailand welcomes tourists with open arms and it turns to sh*t. They need to ACCEPT that any short term gain for 3 or 4 bubble destinations simply isn't worth the risk.
Thai Airways were already in the sh*t before Covid. They need to ACCEPT that too. It simply isn't worth rescuing.
Can you confirm if the UK's quarantine hotel staff are Covid tested?
Meanwhile, lets watch Cyprus eh?

Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
The truth is tourism worldwide has had a kick in the nuts
When it restarts to some sort of normality is after quarantine is finished
To fix thai air what is needed is to sack all executive staff and make it a privately run airline
that has to be competitively run not feed from the public tit

Re: thaivisa down for the count?
The three phases would begin on April 1st, June 1st and October 1st 2021.
The first will see the risk zone factors and colors reassessed, the process of quarantine reexamined and matters surrounding the emergency decree addressed.
After the second phase - confined to discussions about infectious disease regulations - comes phase three that will be of most interest to foreign tourists considering a visit to Thailand.
Exactly how this will play out will depend on how the Thai vaccine program is progressing and will involve allowing access to Thailand of foreigners who have been vaccinated in their home countries.
Decisions will be made ahead of this phase regarding what to do about quarantine.
The announcement was thus very vague with a wait and see approach probably best for now for potential tourists, notes Thaivisa.
