And now the effin Chinese have placed all sorts of embargoes on our primary products makes em more affordable locally.
Happy days, and didn't take long for the producers to find markets else where eg. barely to South America.

Re: A little ray of sunshine from Australia
Where I currently am, this Country has just been through a 3 1/2 years embargo, on the importing goods from neighboring Countries, and travel to and from. Prior to the Emb, the Country was extremely dependent at that time, on importing food products from several neighboring Countries, plus Tourism with them. That all changed in 2017.
The impact was sort of noticeable, to some degree, for the first 4 -6 weeks after the start of the Emb.
Fast forward 4 - 6 months after the start of the Emb and this Country was much better placed, having established new trade relationships, new import markets especially for food and beverage products, and it was a much more pleasant and somewhat cheaper environment to shop in, with absolutely more choice of many never seen before produce.
Having all your trading eggs in one basket is a bad thing for Trade and one becomes too dependent on too few other Countries and also too complacent within those trade relationships, not to mention being unprepared for the shift in the Political whims of those other countries, that you once thought were friendly neighbors. Australia has been through this before with Indonesia to some degree in the pats 25 years.
My advice to Australia (and I don't think they need it or want it) would be, to progressively disengage from a high dependence on a few limited trading partners and embark on sourcing from/trading with, a new bunch of Countries. There are some 195 Countries out their.
The potential cost of single source dependence, can be high and often a lopsided trade relationship. A bit like a sudden divorce.
So "Go forth and Multiply" Australia and you will be much better off in the longer term.
Just my two cent worth

And Africa just stopped using astra zenica as it don't work against the African strain. Best bet for the Aussies is to get the jab and keep everyone out. Seems we can develop a vaçcine in 12 months ,but the virus can change in 6 months. I try not to be pessimistic , but I think this crap still has a couple of years to go .pipoz4444 wrote: ↑February 8, 2021, 11:27 pmProduced in Melbourne

It will be interesting to see how this one, plays out: Australian Government vs Google
Given the US Department of Justice and a number is States also appear to be filing anti trust lawsuits against Alphabet Inc's Google, along with others such a South Korea, China and UK, also launching investigations, probes or inquiries, as well (according to reuters & Fortune), 2021/2022 may become interesting from a Alphabet Inc's Google perspective.
Maybe it will all end up as a storm in a teacup, with Fines only, but then again it could also be the start of another Microsoft breakup.

The DOJ announced on September 6, 2001 that it was no longer seeking to break up Microsoft and would instead seek a lesser antitrust penalty. Microsoft decided to draft a settlement proposal allowing PC manufacturers to adopt non-Microsoft software.

I wonder if the people in Tokyo who are insisting their Olympics will go ahead are watching this?
Melbourne enters new lockdown, crowds barred from Australian Open
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia’s second-most populous city will enter a five-day snap coronavirus lockdown, authorities said on Friday, barring spectators for much of the Australian Open tennis tournament.
This is a single sporting event with the strictest quarantine controls in a country with the strictest border regulations.

A little ray of sunshine from Australia
On this day in 1966, Australia switched from pounds and pence to dollars and cents.
Changeover Day went off without a hitch until six-year-old Kim Taylor became the first Australian child to swallow a decimal coin.
Who remembers the song?! https://youtu.be/5ZTeWLA1LAs

Re: A little ray of sunshine from Australia
ON THIS DAY – 20th February
1876 – The submarine cable between New South Wales and New Zealand was completed.
1885 – The Richmond Football Club was formed.
1903 – The Flag of Australia, altered so that the stars of the Southern Cross (except the smallest one) have seven points each, was approved by Edward VII.
1913 – individual O'Malley drove in the first survey peg to mark the commencement of work on the construction of the Australian capital, Canberra.
1962 – Perth became known as the City of Light when astronaut John Glenn passed over the city and thousands of external lights were switched on to greet him.
1981 – Alice Springs coroner Denis Barritt found that Azaria Chamberlain was killed by a dingo.
1992 – Scores of people fled their homes as several coastal towns north of Brisbane were hit by flash floods.
Pictured:
Blundells Cottage, Canberra, is one of the few remaining buildings built by the first settlers of the area. It is a six-roomed stone cottage located on the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin built by George P. Campbell on his 32,000-acre Duntroon estate in about 1858 for his ploughman William Ginn. Canberra was built around it, the paddocks replaced with government buildings and suburbs. It is now the only domestic dwelling inside the Parliamentary Triangle and is managed by the National Capital Authority as a house museum. (Your Life Choices) – Bottom Left
