Fishing net

Can anyone suggest a store that sells large nets for fishing.
The ones you fling into the water and weights sink it down to trap the fish.
I have some really big fish in the pond. But for the life of me cant catch one!
Few tiddlers now and then.I am not into fishing!Nor in anyway interested.
But just want a fish supper now and then! I been using a rod. Hopeless!

You're talking about Cast nets (sounds like "ooun haare" or just "haare"in Thai). There are net shops in town on Phosri Rd. near Immigration office & also the street with the furniture shops, Miss Cake (sorry can't recall the name). The nets the Thais use are very simple Japanese style with chain on the bottom. You throw it, then drag along the pond/river bottom so the fish cannot escape.
Do you know how to throw a large one? Takes some practice to get it to open.

A fella goes out fishing and everyday he comes home with a boat full. One day the Game Warden asks " Where are you catching all these fish? Fisherman says come with me and I will show you rather than say as thre are too many ears around the dock to reveal my Spot." away they go and then the Fisherman stops lays anchor and pulls out a stick of dynamite lights it and throws into the lake , BOOM and up comes loads of fish. He puts them into the boat and grabs another sick of dynamite and lights it. The Warden protests "you cant do that it is illegal", The Fisherman is taken back and all of a sudden hands the burning piece of dynamite to the Warden and says "You, going to fish or complain" BOOM

FWIW I’ve just bought a large (5m x 2m) nylon net from the bric-à-brac store right opposite the Charoen Hotel on Phosi Road.
It was only 180 baht so if you tie some weights on it to give it a try & it doesn’t work it wouldn’t be the end of the world

I doubt that the readymade nets are very much more expensive and the work to make them isn’t trivial so not really a value for money idea IMNSHO.

I agree. I have never seen one close up, but I guess quite a unique set up.
Simple, but works. Just thinking,where they sell fire work banger's!

Thais flat know how to catch fish. They are some of the best I've ever fished with. They fish both for fun and for food. I'd think that if you check around you could find someone who could put on to a fish trap. Thais usually make their own and they definitely know how to use them. Might be worth looking into for your personal pond.
