Happy Independence Day!
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Re: Happy Birthday USA
The Declaration of Independence was actually announced on the 2nd July, the signed copies of the declaration were sent out to the other States on the 4th. But don't tell the yanks that. They have as much knowledge of their own history as the have on world geography. A happy belated birthday anyway.

Re: Happy Birthday USA
Just to make sure AlexO has the correct info on reason for July 4th celebration and actual final signing date.
"One of the most widely held misconceptions about the Declaration of Independence is that it was signed on July 4, 1776. In fact, independence was formally declared on July 2, 1776, a date that John Adams believed would be “the most memorable epocha in the history of America.” On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the final text of the Declaration. It wasn’t signed until August 2, 1776."

Not only that, Stan, but it turns out that Washington wasn't the first person to hold the title of President. I just found this today: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/hal ... washingtonStantheman wrote: ↑July 5, 2020, 9:46 pmJust to make sure AlexO has the correct info on reason for July 4th celebration and actual final signing date.

If my history is correct isnt the 4th July the day the British invented the USA thus giving them a language and the base to become what they are today .. more importantly its my next door neighbors dogs anal fumigation for lice.

That's a good one DM.
I was in Yamazaki in KK yesterday queuing behind a similar hale and hearty yank. He wanted to discuss the chocolate bun I was buying. I'm British, I dont talk to random strangers. Think he got the message.

Happy birthday to New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The other states have different holidays.
I had a bumper sticker in Texas that read 'Beam me up Scotty'. I often wish I could find one in Udon Thani
Re: Happy Birthday USA
I could have sworn I got a day off for America's HBD when I worked in Texas but not for 2 March.

Correctimundo, I should have said 'different birthdays' instead of 'different holidays'
