Liverpool FC have labelled scenes at the Pier Head "wholly unacceptable" after celebrations turned ugly on Friday night.

Thousands of fans gathered outside Liverpool's Liver Building to celebrate the Reds' Premier League title triumph, breaking social distancing rules designed to keep people safe after the outbreak of coronavirus.

Shocking footage would later emerge of fireworks being aimed at the Liver Building and the evening saw a number of people injured, with further reports of violence and vandalism.

A joint statement from Liverpool FC, Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council read: "Throughout the last week, Liverpool Football Club, Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council and Spirit of Shankly have worked together to consistently remind people that the region is still disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and ask people to celebrate LFC’s Premier League title win safely.

"Several thousand people turned up at the Pier Head on Friday June 26 and some chose to ignore the social distancing guidance and risk public safety.

"Our city is still in a public health crisis and this behaviour is wholly unacceptable.

Someone please try and tell me had it been City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham that had won the league then the supporters would have stayed at home that night.

Good luck with that.
NOT Saying They Would Have, But I Doubt if they would've been trying to Burn down an Iconic Building...... [-X [-X

Think outside the box. What if Everton had won the league?...

Good luck with THAT!

No question #LFC fans are very prickly about The Liver Bird and it's Building belonging to #EFC but they have set the perception of city back decades tonight. Setting fire to the cities most iconic construction. Shameful and deplorable.

To me this thread looks much more interesting.

You're, as usual, correct 747man. Those Liverpool louts need a kick up the backside.

Love the way 747 copy pastes someone else’s thoughts and passed them off as his own

Heres some model EFC fans rioting ,and lets not forget the organised fight with millwall fans not so long ago im sure the local residents wont,747 would you like to talk about evertons ''county road cutters'' and what they got upto???,every club has its dickheads its just the way it goes unfortunately ,but we all know the reason you keep going on about this its to deflect liverpools achievements over the season/seasons if it makes you feel better carry on but the Bitterness is eating you away.
