My gut told me this back in May, that Thailand would possibly allow,
New Zealand & Australian Passport holders to enter as tourists on 01 September 2020
Some European Passport holders to enter as tourists on 01 September 2020

And this back when both New Zealand & Australia, seemed to have the Covid-19 under control, with very low and or no new case numbers.

But even now, I don't believe that September will happen, with many Tourists being accepted for re-entry into Thailand - it will get postponed, for several reasons,

1.Not all other Countries will allow their people to travel outside of their home Country by September. Those that do allow them to, will undoubtedly impose restrictions on their Nationals, when you return home, such as a forced to do 14 days Quarantine (additional holiday) in their home Country. Any such restriction when one returns home country, by way of a further Quarantine, is a huge disincentive to travel in the first place. Why would anyone take 28 Days accrued annual leave, just to holiday for 2 weeks elsewhere? :-k  Makes that one holiday a very expensive one?

2. By September 2020, their will not be too many Counties in the good book with Thailand, with reciprocal travel agreement or bubbles as some like to refer to. By that I mean most Countries will still be battling the pandemic and most like still have new daily case numbers daily, above what the Thai Immigration will consider as an acceptable limit, in which case it will scare the T I Sh..tless. :-k

3..Combine the above, with the reoccurring spikes in new case numbers, recently seen in some Counties such as NZ, Australia & Japan, who arguably have Covid-19 under control, and this will only signal to the Thai’s that, Tourists from those Countries without very good control of the Virus, simply can’t be trusted and or carry too high a risk to let them back into Thailand. Few Countries will fall into the acceptable low risk category (from a Thai perspective), with low new case numbers and very very few will have been free for the past 28 days, by September 2020. To me it is more like November 2020, before Countries the can achieve this low risk status. =; =;

All Countries need to get their “Duck in Row”, before Countries can reach their reciprocal travel protocols in place, to such an extent that traveling from one country to the next is not a pain in the ar...e. \:D/ \:D/

Just a view from a far

Personally, I doesn't worry me at this stage, as I have 18 months more in this place ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) and hopefully after that :-({|= :guitar: Thailand for good, assuming they still accept Farang's for Retirement. :fryingpan:

pipoz4444
November is as good a guess as any. Personally, I see the goalposts constantly moving away as the absurdities of tourist bubbles anywhere become apparent. I was reading that the latest Thai government shift is away from bubbles of regular tourism to bubbles of high-value or "rich tourists". I doubt the vast amount of 2 and 3 star hotels here will be liking that latest brainstorm.

I think Australians already need to apply for permission to travel overseas. I don't think it's an outright vetting of reasons to travel with "non-essential" being knocked back. More of another bit of a track and trace registration effort that in itself will serve as a deterrent to the less ardent. Your point about adding up to 28 days of quarantine making any vacation an extremely expensive affair goes with my opinion that the only frequent fliers in the future will be essential workers and businessmen... and the rich and indolent. May be an opportunity to snap up someone's bargain, unusable "second home" farmhouse in France or villa in Tuscany and make it the practical first (and only) home?

Globally, add to the mix the reversal of "flu season" between northern and summer hemispheres, getting the ducks in a row will be nigh impossible. The only upside of that at the moment is Bolsonaro's joust with Brazilian history is south of the equator. Just think if we had that single public health care disaster going on in the middle of Europe right now, it would make the UK look like the Covid-19 success story its government is still peddling.

Regionally and locally, what I can see is low-level, controlled and commercially relevant border crossings for local nationals between bordering nations. Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Myanmar will have reciprocal short-term visit arrangements where individuals will need to register and pre-qualify to cross. If things do go apeshit overnight, borders slam shut without the drama of airports, airplanes and thousands of stranded foreigners.

This idea of "Bubbles" was someones Wet Dream.

It was never practicable, too may variables that could go wrong

Yes, Australians will not be be allowed to travel outside of holiday, until 2021, that is, if they are currently stuck in Australia

I suspect the the NZ Government will be a wee bit kinder and allow their nationals to go on holiday from NZ, a few months earlier than Australia

Thailand reports 1 imported virus case, no deaths Sunday

From The Bangkok Post

Thailand on Sunday reported one new coronavirus case, a Thai boy who returned from overseas, and no additional deaths.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said the single new case was a six-year-old boy who returned to the country from South Africa with his mother. They are under state quarantine in Chon Buri, where the boy tested positive for the virus but the mother did not.

Sunday marked the 27th consecutive day with no locally transmitted infections. No additional Covid-19 patients were discharged in the previous 24 hours, leaving the total number recovered at 3,018. Seventy-two are now hospitalised, with the accumulated death toll still 58.

According to a government website, Bangkok had the most cases -- 1,536 -- followed by Phuket with 227, Nonthaburi with 158, Yala with 125 and Samut Prakan with 112.

Songkhla had the highest number of people in quarantine -- 90 -- followed by Bangkok with 64, Chon Buri with 36, Samut Prakan with 28, Satun with 18 and Pattani with 15.

Despite the country's success in quelling local transmissions, the centre reminded the public to continue to wear face masks and use the Thai Chana platform to check in and out of stores and other public places.

The Thailand Civil Aviation Authority has further relaxed the restrictions on domestic airline services by removing the need for on-board social distancing (so that middle seat is now likely to be sold)
CCAT Director Chula Sookmanop says that domestic airlines can sell all their seats on each flight

Apparently there is a relationship between you Blood Group and the Risk of how Covid-19 will affect you if you catch it, being studied. The Links June and March 2020

From what they are saying or suggesting, those with a Blood Type O, have a lower risk of getting a severe infection from Covid-19, than those with some of the other Blood types. This may factor into finding a future Vaccine. :-k :-k

Extract from Link Below:

Blood type may play a pivotal role in driving disease severity among coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients. Genetic analysis of COVID-19 patients has shown that people with blood type O seemed to be protected against severe disease. In contrast, those with blood type A may experience complications tied to the viral infection.

A team of European scientists has found that two genetic variations may show who is more likely to get very sick and even die from the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Further, they found a link to blood type, suggesting that some people are predisposed to COVID-19 severe disease.

The study findings, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, shed light on why some people have a higher risk of being infected with the coronavirus and developing worse symptoms.

In three completely separate studies, researchers from Columbia University, Iran's Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, and various Chinese institutions all arrived at similar findings

https://www.news-medical.net/news/20200 ... irmed.aspx

Extract from Link below: The novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has been spreading around the world rapidly and declared as a pandemic by WHO.

Here, we compared the ABO blood group distribution in 2,173 patients with COVID-19 confirmed by SARS-CoV-2 test from three hospitals in Wuhan and Shenzhen, China with that in normal people from the corresponding regions.

The results showed that blood group A was associated with a higher risk for acquiring COVID-19 compared with non-A blood groups, whereas blood group O was associated with a lower risk for the infection compared with non-O blood groups.

This is the first observation of an association between the ABO blood type and COVID-19. It should be emphasized, however, that this is an early study with limitations. It would be premature to use this study to guide clinical practice at this time, but it should encourage further investigation of the relationship between the ABO blood group and the COVID-19 susceptibility.

This is very SOBERING information, that will make many rethink personal protection when out and about I am sure.

Coronavirus: Warning thousands could be left with lung damage
By Jim Reed and Sophie Hutchinson
BBC News
23 June 2020

Anthony McHugh spent a total of four weeks in hospital with Covid-19
Tens of thousands of people will need to be recalled to hospital after a serious Covid-19 infection to check if they have been left with permanent lung damage, doctors have told the BBC.

Experts are concerned a significant proportion could be left with lung scarring, known as pulmonary fibrosis.

The condition is irreversible and symptoms can include severe shortness of breath, coughing and fatigue.

NHS England said it was opening specialist rehabilitation centres.

Retired taxi driver Anthony McHugh, 68, was admitted to hospital on 6 March with coronavirus symptoms. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred to intensive care and placed on a ventilator for 13 days.

"I was feeling breathless, then I just remember being rushed into ICU, and after that it was all just a blank," he said.

'Lucky to be alive'
Mr McHugh, from Hertfordshire, spent a total of four weeks in hospital and another two in an NHS rehabilitation unit. He returned home in mid-April but still suffers from breathing difficulties two months later.

"It's little things like walking up the stairs or watering the flowers outside. I start bending down and I have to stop," he said.

CT scans taken while he was in hospital showed a white mist, or "ground glass", pattern in both lungs - a characteristic sign of coronavirus

In serious cases it's thought coronavirus can trigger an exaggerated immune response causing mucus, fluid and other cells to fill the air sacs, or alveoli. When this happens, pneumonia can set in, making it difficult to breathe without assistance.

An X-ray of Mr McHugh's lungs taken six weeks after he left hospital showed thin white lines, known as reticular shadowing, that could indicate the early signs of scarring or pulmonary fibrosis.

'That's a worry'
"With all these cases, we can't say for certain at the moment," said Dr Sam Hare, an executive committee member of the British Society of Thoracic Imaging and advisor to the Royal College of Radiologists.

"But usually with a virus or infection at six weeks, you would expect the scan to have returned to normal. It hasn't and that's the worry."

Like other Covid-19 patients who have been discharged from hospital, Mr McHugh will need another scan at 12 weeks to see if the suspected scarring on his lungs has deteriorated.

What is pulmonary fibrosis?
Pulmonary fibrosis is a disease that occurs when fragile parts of the lungs become damaged and scarred
The thickened, stiff tissue makes it more difficult for the air sacs to work effectively
In some cases this can lead to breathing difficulties and fatigue, as well as leaving the patient more susceptible to other lung infections in the future
It is an irreversible condition and in some cases can be progressive, meaning it gets worse over time.
Research into the prevalence of lung damage caused by Covid-19 is still at a very early stage.

It's thought those with a mild form of the disease are unlikely to suffer permanent damage. But those in hospital, and particularly those in intensive care or with a severe infection, are more vulnerable to complications.

In a study from China, published in March, 66 of 70 patients still had some level of lung damage after being discharged from hospital.

Radiologists in the UK say, based on the early results of follow-up scans, they are concerned about the long term-effects of a serious infection.

"In the six-week scans we're seeing, so far I would say between 20% and 30% of patients who have been in hospital appear to show some early signs of lung scarring," says Dr Hare, who helped draw up NHS radiology protocols to diagnose Covid-19.

Other UK radiologists have told the BBC they were noticing a similar pattern.

Radiologist Dr Sam Hare uses a plastic cup to demonstrate how Covid-19 can leave lung damage
More detailed data from two other earlier coronavirus outbreaks, Sars and Mers, found between 20% and 60% of patients experienced some form of health problem consistent with pulmonary fibrosis.

Whereas those earlier outbreaks were contained relatively successfully, the virus that causes Covid-19 has spread across the world, with more than eight million confirmed infections to date.

More than 100,000 patients have needed hospital care for Covid-19 in England since the pandemic started in February, according to NHS figures.

"My concern with Covid-19 is because so much of the population has been infected," said Dr Hare.

"I'm worried about the sheer volume of patients that we're going to have to treat, simply because so many more people have had the virus."

Future treatment
Lung fibrosis cannot be cured because scarring in the lung tissue is permanent. But new drugs can slow down the progression of the disease and even stop it completely if detected in time.

Thais must brace for virus spike, warns expert

From The Bangkok Post
By: Apinya Wipatayotin

Wave.jpg
"The key is to win public cooperation by not lowering our guard," says Dr Prasit Watanapa, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Mahidol University. (File photo)

A second wave of Covid-19 is likely to occur following the lifting of all lockdown measures, and the kingdom must be ready for it, a medical expert has warned.

Dr Prasit Watanapa, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Mahidol University, took to Facebook Live to warn the public. He said a second wave could occur, but it would be limited and found in contained areas.

Some countries that previously recorded low numbers of new cases have recorded a resurgence of Covid-19.

Second waves of the Covid-19 have been reported in countries with previously few to no recorded cases such as China, Japan, South Korea and Germany after lockdown measures were lifted.

The Thai government is expected to lift most of its lockdown measures next month. It has been almost one month since the country began recording zero cases of new local transmissions. Most of the newly recorded cases have been attributed to those returning from abroad.

Dr Prasit said a second wave appears to be unavoidable without lockdown measures, in the absence of herd immunity.

He added that people have not developed natural antibodies.

“We want to be able to limit the number of cases and contain infections during a second wave so our healthcare workers can deal with the cases without creating a financial burden for the government,” Dr Prasit said.

“We don’t want to reimpose the lockdown and force everything to stop,” he added. “The key is to win public cooperation by not lowering our guard.”

19 Myanmar patients said to test positive for virus passed 14-day quarantine in Thailand

By The Nation

Nineteen Myanmar labourers who finished their state quarantine in Thailand tested negative for the coronavirus before being sent home, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesman of the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said today (June 22).
His statement came after Myanmar’s Health Ministry reported last Friday that the 19 are among 23 who tested positive for Covid-19. The 19 had been deported from Thailand on June 8 after being lodged in a Thai detention centre close to the Malaysian border for visa violations.

Dr Taweesin said that the 19 were quarantined in Thailand for 14 days on April 25. The travel history of four others who passed through Thailand are under investigation.

Both the countries’ health ministries are now working together to find the source of the infections.

BANGKOK — Top government officials on Wednesday refused to rule out the possibility of extending the Emergency Decree again for the third time amid growing voices of concern from the opposition and private sector.

Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngam said the Cabinet did not discuss the fate of the emergency rule in its meeting yesterday. He deferred reporter’s questions to the National Security Council and said that the final decision on its fate is to be made by the government’s COVID-19 response center next Monday.

“I don’t know whether the decree will be extended,” Wissanu said. “The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration will hold a meeting on June 29, before submitting the proposals for the Cabinet to approve on June 30.”

The government had previously said that the Cabinet will deliberate on whether to extend the decree this week. The Emergency Decree empowers the PM to implement his order in any state agency and allows security officers to search individuals without warrants. It also bans any unauthorized public gatherings, including political protests.

The law has been extended twice since it was imposed on March 26, and is supposed to expire next Tuesday.

PM Prayut Chan-o-cha suggested yesterday that the decree is needed to keep Thailand safe from the pandemic.

“Imagine if there’s no Emergency Decree, would we be able to reach this point?” Prayut said Tuesday. “Is the pandemic over? There’s nearly 10,000,000 people infected around the world so far. I’m not intending to use the law against anyone. The country is facing a crisis and the economy is still in trouble, is this the time to stir up a conflict?”

Deputy PM Wissanu also said the special law is necessary to maintain state quarantine measures, but opposition lawmakers accused the government of exploiting the special power under the disguise of fighting the coronavirus.
