A little ray of sunshine from Australia
Re: A little ray of sunshine from Australia
That's why I went and got the 1yr extension.
My "Non O" is not due til Sept, but my 3mth up soon, so would have to leave when border opens.
Now, at least I can stay til I know what's going on

My visa run to Saigon should have been tomorrow
Had paid for the visa permit to enter Vietnam
but is not valid now as no foriegners can enter there yet
And SSW you need a visa permit cost 10 USD to get a visa to enter Vietnam on lots of different passports

So, CJ,
You gotta leave within 7 days of border open?

The only place I have seen this reported is in the Murdoch rags, and other Murdoch related media. Plus the scavenging Mail Online, which stole it from Murdoch.cjd01 wrote: ↑June 13, 2020, 5:35 pmsky news Australia

Nothing that I could find in other MSM, or government websites (Health, Border Force).
However, the same MSM are reporting an extension, till 17 September, of the ban on cruise ships coming to Oz.

Re: A little ray of sunshine from Australia
I didn't dismiss it - I said I couldn't find it anywhere else.
Which I found interesting, given it is pretty significant news.
But to then to find a similar, but far less significant story about cruise ships bans in other media, which also quoted the 17 September date, piqued my interest as to whether they either didn't have the "bigger" story; had chosen not to print it; or it was misreported by Murdoch in the first place.
ps your link was from a news aggregator, and a direct pinch from news.com.au

Ok fine I hope it's BS
It's affected my travel plans greatly, I've tried in the last 10 mins to call the Aus Health hotline only Mon-Fri
I will call in the morning
Will post tomorrow

Unfortunately, they both repeat the same minute amount of information.
It is important, so best to wait for some more confirmation, i think

Some potentially dark clouds over medium term travel.
The problems that I see are:
1. flights out of Thailand at a reasonable price
2. quarantine restrictions in whichever state you land in Oz
3. flights back to Thailand at a reasonable price
4. getting an exemption in Oz to travel (but see above)
5. getting back into Thailand - visas, insurance and quarantine
Having said that, from what I have read, you can "escape" from Oz if you can demonstrate that you are normally resident in an overseas country.Australians hoping for an overseas holiday have had their hopes dashed, with the Tourism Minister saying the nation's border is likely to stay closed until next year.

Qantas has cancelled international flights until late October except for services to New Zealand.
“With Australia’s borders set to remain closed for some time, we have cancelled most international flights until late October,” a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement to AAP early on Thursday.

Not good news for those who want to get back to Thailand from Australia or possibly anywhere else
When one Country does this, other Countries tend to follow suit and so tighten their re-entry policies, on who will be permitted to enter and when
I am convinced that Thailand will also take a tough and protracted line, when it comes to letting the general Tourist or Farang's on O-A or O or Retirement visa's, back into Thailand and it will not be any time soon.
I previously said it would no be before September 2020, before the majority of the Farang's would be allowed to return to see their families etc, and now I am viewing September, as too optimistic. As a Farang trying to enter, this time on a tourist visa, I can't see myself being allowed back into Thailand until late November 2020.

I reckon KLM's handy, twice-weekly 787's from/to Amsterdam are now a thing of the past. Earliest their website shows availability is 25th July.
VietJet Air's website shows to/from Saigon starts 16 August. Must be the airlines best guess at 'normal'?

Re: A little ray of sunshine from Australia
The questions are,
1. How many Airlines will fold between now and the end or this year
2. How many Airline will cut back on their flight routes (to minimize expenditure/outgoing cash), to a point that finding a reasonable priced flight in November to January may prove very difficult. They will only want to fly Routes that have full loads, for a period after restrictions are lifted, in my view.
If competition between Airlines dwindles over the next 6 month or has dwindled buy the time they start their flights again, then the surviving opportunist (Airlines) will most likely jack up the November to January Peak Season flight cost.
Combine this will every one very keen to take holidays or just travel somewhere, once restrictions are eased/lifted and it will be like bidding on E bay to get a ticket at a reasonable price.
Not looking forward to what the flight cost and travel route options will be, in November/December/January, assuming there will be Options?

I think that with global economies mired in recession, the idea of taking a vacation or a holiday will be not only unthinkable but financially impossible. The only people flying will be the essential workers.

Seems a big ray of sunshine in West Australia
WA's coronavirus restrictions are being significantly eased under phase four.

That story makes out the sandgropers are a nice group of people by opening up, but they still have that chip on both shoulders they have had for over 30 years of the eastern staters coming over and stealing their jobs and enforcing the 14 day isolation with a test before you can be free.
Got a mate sucking on stubbies for a fortnight in a hotel before he can fly north for work. Hope he passes the alcohol test on arrival.

Re: A little ray of sunshine from Australia
We agree and even those who can afford the luxury of holidays, will scale back on what they budget to spend and how many trips they take per year. I think we will see a different travel pattern and frequency of travel over the next several years, regardless of whether a vaccine is found or not. Just human nature, being more cautious and how they spend, in the future.

I fully sympathize with your mate, Barney.
He should toss that job in, and grab one of the many going begging in the eastern states.
