is this a ray of sunshine?
I think if it stays voluntary, for sure.
I think enough people would take it up to achieve the results the the Gov want.

Ok
I'm sure they'll get 40% to agree, however to me it's step by step by step to eradicate any freedom we have left

Good point, and I agree entirely.

In that case, they need to remove it once/if the virus becomes under some sort of control.
And, at least, if it's voluntary, people can just remove it, (mind you, most will just forget the've even got it)

Mick
when they bring in these restrictions or other "things" for the good of the people
it always seems some are never removed after the event

Mick
I'm now being pedantic, is he saying that the current easing of restrictions in Australia is not dependent on 40% of people signing up (voluntary or otherwise) for the app or that the app is now longer a factor in easing restrictions?

Ha,
Not pedantic.
It's a government we're talking about.

No surprise if they change the goal posts.
Who knows?

The app is called TraceTogether and uses Bluetooth to create a record of other nearby phones that also have the app.

But it does not track people's location.

Now, that sorts doesn't make any sense??????

That makes little sense, there are many limitation, Bluetooth is quite old technology.

Theooretically you can can list 10 bluetooth devices but really only pair one. Devices would include speakers, tablets, laptops, radios or other phones. It may be possible for the app to 'poll' the bluetooth register say every 15 seconds, to take a snapshot of the 10 local bluetooth clusters, but if for instance it was used on a train, there would be too many devices to track.

I don't know details about the app, but would suggest if it uses bluetooth and not Wi-Fi it is probably not going to be of much value.

Australia sits at

Total Reported Cases: 6559
Reported Deaths: 68 No or 1.037% of Total Cases Reported (25 No in the 70-79 age & 20 No in 80-89 age group)
Reported Deaths: None under 40 years old, 1 No in 40-49, 2 No in 50-59 & 7 No in 60-69
Average New Case: An average of 40 New Cases per Day for the past 6 Days
Recovered vs Current: 3819 Recovered vs 2672 Current Active, approx 58 % Recovered to Date

One would have to say that the worst is over [-o< [-o< =D> for the majority of the States

If you look at the statistics on a State by State basis, you would have to consider opening the businesses back up in - SA, WA, QLD, TAS and ACT as of now - with maybe holding off another week in NSW and VIC until the new cases subside a bit more(given NSW and VIC still have double digit new cases being reported, as of yesterday).

If location tracking is on for this app, it can merge location data with nearby phones. The problem is there will be a lot of clutter with other bluetooth devices, I made another post on this subject earlier

Is there not already an app for Carona virus in Aus.
It already had the ability to get people’s information if they desired.
Perhaps this just an upgrade to what already exists.
If not it most likely is from the same development company. Who they are or how they were given the order by the govt is anybody’s guess.

New Case Numbers down to 13, 21 & 12 over the last three days. Down to max 6 in WA and Zero in SA, Vic and Tas.

Time to take the handbrake off the Country

I bet the Country opens back up (internally) for business early next week, about the same time as NZ.

Now if we can just keep the Virus grubs off shore for another month or two and let those other countries get their respective houses in order, we should be OK. Australia should have shut its gates or quarantined those returning to seek a safe haven, much earlier than it did. \:D/ \:D/ :-k and we would have been a lot better of, for it and in all likely hood saved quite a number of the deaths.

With 64% of the total recorded cases being confirmed as "acquired overseas", you just have to wonder why Australia didn't implement stricter border controls and immediate quarantine, for those returning for overseas. Or was it because they believed the idiots who advocated for keeping the borders open and argued that it wouldn't make a difference to close them. Well the near final numbers don't lie and that 64% of people acquired overseas, ultimately contributed to a number of the 74 deaths. :-k :-k

I realize it is not over yet (i.e the number of deaths) as there are still 1,816 active cases which could push up the final number of deaths, but how did we manage to keep the Death Rate down to 1.11% (Present), compared to other countries. We have old people too and we have many nursing homes???

Spain 10.4%, Italy 13.4%, France 13.2%, UK 13,6% & Belgium 14.9% Death Rates against recorded cases, and it goes on. And what Australia is less than 1 /10th of them?? It defies logic, as these are not third world/poor countries. :-k :-k :-k

It has been said sunlights uv helps destroy the virus
So maybe Aus coming out of summer had more people exposed to uv
Where as Europe coming out of winter people more likely to be rugged up and inside

Don't know, but New Zealand and Tasmania had similar outcomes and they never see the sun down there. \:D/ \:D/ =D>

That theory doesn’t seem to be working in Singapore although their weather seems crap for the next few days

For the first time in six weeks, NSW has relinquished the grim title of most confirmed cases of COVID-19 per resident.

The dubious distinction has passed to Tasmania, which has now recorded more than 200 confirmed infections — the equivalent of 37.5 per 100,000 residents.
