I worked all over mainland China between 1980 and 1988 and apart from the China Garden restaurant run by an Aussie-Chinese guy that opened in the basement arcade of the Great Wall Hotel around 1985, the whole concept of exotic, wholesome and tasty Chinese cuisine in China is a myth.

Based on my 4 years living and eating in Beijing and other parts of China early this century, I would beg to differ.

However, I did stay for 3 weeks in 1992, under entirely different economic circumstances, and the food then, from memory, was less than memorable. As was the staff canteen food during my later stay, when I ventured into the basement at lunch time.

The myth is that the Chinese (in China) introduced pineapple to sweet & sour anything.

Sweet and sour sauces have been used in English cuisine since the Middle Ages, with recipes for sweet and sour meat and fish in the 1390 cookery book The Forme of Cury.
Maybe here it started???

I don''t think you re too far off the mark.

Like every other imperialist power, surreptitious activities backed up visible activities. Britain had plenty spies and puppets in foreign lands from the 18th century on, France, Belgium (The Congo) did the same in their colonial days. Japan propped up a Thai government during WWII. Germany had lots going on during the Third Reich. The USA was outrageous in Central and South America in the 19th & 20th century.

China is simply playing the same game, not agreeing with it, and we should beware, but a game that has been played for centuries, should be no surprise to anybody.

You didn't even read it did you? It's from the South China Morning Post btw... not known for making a noise about internet influencers, especially those in the parochial Thai backwaters.

The anti-Chinese factions in Taiwan and Hong Kong are running with this increasingly visible anti-Chinese sentiment IN THAILAND. It also points to a couple of Thai institutions that are increasingly becoming despised and marginalised.

With the addition of the story about the two 'cables" sent to Washington in an attempt to raise a flag, this pretty much is the same story previously mentioned (link below). Not only does it identify Shi Zhengli as the person driving this research at an establishment with poor oversight, by tracking China's penchant to "disappear" people, it makes a good guess at Wuhan's patient #0 as well. It also explores how this virus does have the traits of being reverse-engineered and isn't a naturally occurring organism that jumped from bat to pangolin to human in some hellish abattoir.

The same as HIV, escaped from a testing facility in deep darkest Africa. This one in China. in some respect does make sense but in others a dangerous concept even if they are incapable of showing remorse . But proof as always so difficult to prove any theory no matter how plausible it may be

Part of me hopes there’s some truth behind it Tam,I’d hate to think that half my personal pension value has been wiped out all because some elderly Chinese gentleman quest for a “hard on “ just like that other nut job found gnawing on a Black Panthers leg. A $2 box of Viagra might have saved all this carnage.
