Funnily enough, pipo, I did some research before asking you.

In fact, I googled your own words ie "that the USA have said they will now not fund WHO, until Tedros is gone.", and nothing came up. Have a look yourself if you wish.

Armed with your helpful update, it seems that Dr Ghebreyesus is probably safe until late this year, by which time I am sure we all hope the CV-19 thing has calmed right down.

And as bonus, Trump and Graham will have been sent on their miserable ways by their respective electorates. =D>
I wasn't being rude JS   Cheers

This Covid 19 virus economic impact, will give a lot of Politicians the reason that they have been looking for, to withdraw or stop funding, not only overseas organizations but also to domestic programs. We haven't seen the outcome of what the Politicians will do with their Cuts, yet :-k :-k

Not bad, the guy has a point. The Hedge Funds and like Individual have made a fortune speculating on the stock market and pushing share prices up, beyond the norm or their true value. I some cases, it has been nothing more than gambling on how much that share value will rise over time.

Now comes a "Correction" for whatever reason and we have had them before for other reasons. In many cases neither the Hedge Funds or Individual Investors actually take a loss that affects them. The paper value of their investment is simply is worth less and often a residual value remains, even if the Company folds of opts for Chapter 11. :-k :-k But the "Billionaire" is normally still a "Billionaire", after the Correction. That is what the guy in the Video appears to be suggesting.

Bezos was worth 131 Billion in 2019, but he is only worth 124 billion today. Can't see him having to stoop to eat Instant Noodles. :-k :-k :-k

Michael Bloomberg is reported to have sent more than $900 Million on his failed Presidential campaign. Can't see him eating Instant Noodles either.

And the list goes on

So who really hurts financially, at the end of the Covid 19 saga :-k :-k

It's hard to imagine what things will be like for the next few years. A few thoughts. BC = Before Covid, AC - Anno Covid may become part of everyday speak.

Specialist Covid checking clinics. Will spring up everywhere as the need for people to prove COVID free status will become part of everyday life

International holiday travel. Will probably shrink to a tiny fraction of its BC levels for many years to come. For the foreseeable future countries may invoke a 2 week quarantine for incoming visitors and returning citizens, countries will have to adapt strategies before too long. On both outbound and inbound legs, tourists will need to have current health checks confirming they are disease free to replace long quarantine periods.

Countries reliant on tourism. Will see their economies weaken, value of their currency fall and living standards drop while unemployment will grow. Thailand especially vulnerable. Las Vegas will fall into a deep recession.

Restaurants, Bars and Entertainment. Wearing masks in many cases will be impracticable, venues may reconfigure to support social distancing, reducing number of patrons per venue. Maybe using booths to separate patrons from other groups.

Business travel. Similar to holiday travel, two weeks quarantine for both legs of journey will be impractical. More and more business, including sales and support will be remote using technologies like Teams, GOTO meeting, and the recently compromised software called ZOOM. Hackers will be looking at ways of breaking into these technologies, vendors will be needful to update security.

Conferences, mass celebrations like Songkran. Heavily impacted, attendance at smaller controlled venues. Organisers may insist on recent Covid free checks before allowing attendance. Virtual conferences will emerge as an alternative

Winners and loosers. Some countries who cannot afford the massive cost to compensate for economic losses will experience a recession, depreciation of their currency and increases in inflation. Political upheaval will follow with the status quo under challenge. Governments will fall. The USA, and UK look particularly vulnerable. I would not have investments in USD or Sterling if i could avoid it.

China will rapidly become the Worlds superpower. Both economically and militarily

Sovereign risk will change political thinking. Counties will not allow vital goods like medical equipment and pharmaceuticals to be dependent on other countries. Laws will come into force to mandate ratios of domestic production.

Weak companies will disappear. Especially those who were reliant on debt for expansion, they will not be sustainable, and will never recover.

Many airline companies will never recover and go the way of Pan-AM, Sabena etc

Dealing with new flare-ups. There will inevitably be followup outbreaks, countries will have policies in place for regional lock downs as nationwide lock downs will no longer be affordable. When flareups occur, governments will move very quickly.

Future pandemics. Even if COVID is eradicated in the world, governments will invoke permanently entrenched powers so we do not see another pandemic like this taking over the world so rapidly.

Unemployment. High levels will be with us for a long time

I suspect a rough ride for at least the next two to five years.

I suspect lawsuits will be popping up shortly. Negligence and misconduct amongst other claims. A lot of people are suffering due to the actions of others.

Well this current situation is terrible but it has confirmed one thing in my mind .. RETIREMENT

Not the fact that as most do look forward to retiring but more so IM MY OPINION i dont fancy the idea at all , our business is in an induced coma , all accounts up to date and basically non trading no buying no selling this month and next so this has left a huge vacuum of time to be filled taken up by reading , eating / drinking , movies walking the dogs and of course monitoring the intersection fro Tam  ...yes i know these are strange times but IMO not being a lover of golf and other similar activities waking up with nothing to do would absolutely drain my brain , is shopping once per week , cooking , going to the local footy and trying not getting into the habit of going on the piss whilst Dao goes the temple really enough to fill ones time and be happy , on the positive time for some breaks away n hols etc yes ...

So at most semi retiring or not at all is the option im contemplating and these restrictions are starting to compound my views.

DM,
I'm with you.
Smashed all the odd jobs around the house in the first week
Finished all my books.
Nana nap after lunch every day
Drinking more than usual
Days seem much longer than they did even a few weeks ago

Need to find something to do.
My wife probably happy for that, as well as some members on this forum \:D/

DM
So collecting car numbers isnt doing for you then D M .
My first year of retirement was very hard work . So , i decided to see a bit more of the country , literally spent that year traveling in the pick up .
Two weeks on the road , and two weeks back in udon .
You must find a hobby or interest that will take a fair amount of your time .
There must of been something you used to enjoy doing , besides the obvious , when you were younger , but never had the time to pursue .
Like everything else , retirement is a state of mind .
I love the fact that im no longer on the phone hours on end sorting problems , i love the fact i can do what i want on any given day , and if i dont fancy doing it , well , theres always tomorrow .
This lockdown is not like retirement at all , non of us can do as we please right now .
All the other restrictions are making it really hard , staying home all the time is hard , even for us retired folk .

DM, I remember one of the times I was imbibing a brew in front of Taps and "watching the intersection". A truck wheel came bounding down the side of the road with a truck/trailer combo following it missing the left rear duals. Obviously loose lug nuts. A miracle that the wheel bounding along probably at 70kph or more didn't kill someone.. The truck pulled over up the road a bit and the driver ran back up the road and came rolling the other missing dually along the verge.. So, in "watching the intersection" you never know what you might see..

Remember that very well .. actually comical at the time but blooming dangerous... and i recall the driver rolling the detached wheel along the roadside as if it was a regular everyday occurrence ...

As I have only been here for 10 months, the amount of work to upgrade the house, new bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen etc is taking me ages. Meanwhile the garden is just a dust bowl.

So guys if you get bored, I have ambitious plans for a tropical stand out garden and am willing to let you come and work in the garden t save you from boredom. The best thing, you don't have to pay me a thing, I do this for you for free

DM you appear to be suffering a bad case of Junctionitus

recommended treatment is to take 2 beers every 4 hours

if that doesn't do the trick then take 4 beers every 2 hours

Cant understand why pharmacies dont sell beer as it is a known cure fore so many ailments

even POTUS Trump said "Try it ... what harm can it do?"

The Aussie kid simply did not understand their accent, standard response rather than embarrass the Kiwi, he gave a standard response. Considerate always.

Of course I am only an Aussie when it suits me, can always rely on dropping back to my birthplace at the drop of a het (thats a hat for those don't speak kay-one-dublyou-one).
