Re: FBAR Report for American Citizens
Hello, I am trying to determine if I need to file FBAR Report. I read all the information on-line and still not sure. I am not working in Thailand all income in a Thai bank account comes from Direct Deposit of Social Security and other pension benefits in the US. The only reason for funds in Thai account in excess of $10000 is because of the annual requirement for Visa extension. I am trying to reach the the FBAR hotline phone number for expats to get accurate information.
Also, it was stated that if the account is in a International Bank, which Bangkok Bank is; then one does not need to file.
I look forward to those who have had to file and for what reason.
Thank you in advance.

The reason you have the money in the account is irrelevant. Here's the rule, from the IRS:LoneTraveler wrote: ↑February 14, 2020, 9:27 amHello, I am trying to determine if I need to file FBAR Report.
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/irsfbar ... eguide.pdfA United States person must file an FBAR if that person has a financial interest in or signature authority over any
financial account(s) outside of the United States and the aggregate maximum value of the account(s) exceeds
$10,000 at any time during the calendar year.
