L.S.U. and Florida are tied 21 all at the end of the first half. The Tigers have to tighten up that defence.

Mizzou has a 27-7 lead over the Ole Miss Rebels with about 5 minutes to play in the third quarter.

Tigers are 21-7 in the second half. Now 42-28 with under 2 minutes remaining.

...and that's the final score. I guess the Tiger's defence heard you!

Yankees off to a flying start at Houston.

They had just scored their first run when Mrs tam called asking me to pick her and MiL up at the temple. Then I get home to THIS!

L.S.U. and Alabama have to remember they are SEC teams, and should play better defence. At the moment both teams are surrendering points as if they are in a conference with Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.

After stranding 11 men on base, the Astro's Correa hits a walk-off home run in the 11th to end this 5 hour marathon battle of the bullpens and split their home stand with the Yankees.

Detroit should have kept Verlander, but I am happy for them that they did not. And, that Max guy who hurls for Washington...they would be better off if they had kept him too. And, what about those former Tigers with the Red Sox - Price and Porcello? The Tigers could have a great pitching staff if if if...sigh.-

The Nationals built a 7 run wall in the first innining and toughed it out to sweep the Cards and get their first WS berth.

Earlier, the Astros' took game 3 in the Bronx 1-4 and lead the ALC series 2-1 but rain will likely delay tomorrow's game 4 with the Yankees.

The Nats dominated the Cards the entire series and definitely earned their spot in the MLB World series. Nice to see a Washington DC club make it to the big show.

It's been a long time since the Senators last appeared in a World Series.

Look on the bright side, the Mizzou Tigers are having a good year...so far.

I believe the Washington Senators lost the 1933 World Series to the NY Giants so yes, it's been a long, long time. This is the Nationals first World Series in franchise history. A Nats vs Astros would be a good matchup. I still have trouble remembering that the Astros are now an American League team.

Yeah, the Tigers broke into the top 25 ranked teams this week (#22). Should handle Vanderbilt okay next game but still have, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas to get past. They may very well get a Bowl bid.

Georgia and Florida will be trouble. but they should get past the other three. It is too bad that Mzzou and Kansas no longer play each other.

.

Big shakeup in the NCAA Football polls over the weekend.

1 Alabama (30) 6-0 1503
2 LSU (12) 6-0 1449
3 Clemson (11) 6-0 1427
4 Ohio State (9) 6-0 1404
5 Oklahoma 6-0 1333
6 Wisconsin 6-0 1245
7 Penn State 6-0 1129
8 Notre Dame 5-1 1042
9 Florida 6-1 1041
10 Georgia 5-1 995
11 Auburn 5-1 985
12 Oregon 5-1 906
13 Utah 5-1 729
14 Boise State 6-0 716
15 Texas 4-2 672
16 Michigan 5-1 648
17 Arizona State 5-1 524
18 Baylor 6-0 470
19 SMU 6-0 398
20 Minnesota 6-0 330
21 Cincinnati 5-1 308
22 Missouri 5-1 233
23 Iowa 4-2 210
24 Appalachian State 5-0 148
25 Washington 5-2 107

If I had to rank a Top 10 based on who these teams have played and HOW they've played, my poll would be a bit different.

Ohio State would be my #1.

Clemson hasn't played anyone of consequence and neither has Bama. That TAMU ambush that I expected before the season started fizzled within two weeks into the season. Jimbo mighta won on enthusiasm and IVs last year.

Everyone in my top 5 would beat Clemson, who barely escaped a loss vs a mediocre North Carolina team.

Bama hasn't played anyone challenging either, but they've beaten opponents as badly as they should have beaten them. I also think they're still better than LSU. Ohio State is in the same boat schedule-wise as Bama; but tOSU has been more impressive in my eyes. That's why I have them #1.

Diehard fans of other great teams have to admit that LSU has been challenged on the road and at home with ranked teams and met the challenge. They caught Texas when the 'horns were healthy. Don't know about UF's health. Wasn't much said about it going into the game. LSU's defense is still suspect in my eyes. Still losing contain, still giving up too many 3rd-and-long situations, but overall much improved since Texas and Vandy. But they need to get better. Devin White going early to the NFL has shown.

UGA got thumped last year at LSU. This year they beat themselves at home with 4 turnovers vs the Gamecocks. The UF-UGA game will tell a tale. I don't think anyone in the SEC East is better than Bama or LSU.

OU's big test was a beat up Texas team. Texas is even more beat up now.

I continue to be impressed with Wisconsin and Penn State. I'm not a B1G 10 guy, but I enjoy watching them play and try to be honest in my assessments.

1 Ohio State
2 Alabama
3 LSU
4 Wisconsin
5 Oklahoma
6 Clemson
7 Penn State
8 Georgia
9 Notre Dame
10 Oregon

I am not a fan of the Big Ten and think that the Tide, L.S.U., Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Clemson could defeat Ohio State. My dislike of the Buckeyes goes back to Woody Hayes and his 3 yards and a cloud of dust philosophy. I saw Minnesota beat Georgia Tech last year in Detroit and was impressed by the defence of the Gophers. Let's see if they can upend Ohio State.

Well, if Minnesota is going to meet Ohio State this year, it will have to be in the Big 10 Championship game. They don't meet during the regular season. While Minnesota remains undefeated, they have struggled mightily in three games against very inferior opponents (South Dakota State, Fresno State and Georgia Southern). The meat of Minnesota's schedule comes later, and I predict that they will lose 3 of their last 4 regular season games against Wisconsin, at Iowa and Penn State.

I'm not a fan of the Big 10 either.

As for Clemson, they won't play anyone of consequence unless they make the playoff.

Dietze and Rabb, those are some historic names in LSU football. You are fortunate to have befriended them. The Gators seem to be a one=dimensional team - great defence - and they have reverted to the uniforms they wore in the 1957 (?) Gator Bowl when they lost to Ole Miss, 7-3; however, I am pulling for an LSU victory too.

Thought you would enjoy this pic from last Saturday Night in Death Valley.

Thanks for the showing this photo, Lone Star, it brings back nice memories, in particular, the Sugar Bowl victory over Clemson.

The first games I remember watching on TV were an Auburn-Vanderbilt Gator Bowl and an Maryland-Oklahoma Orange Bowl. I really liked the Ole Miss Rebels and their Wing-T offence under Coach Vaught. They always seemed to have a good offence and defence in those days of platoon football. L.S.U. was my backup team.

And it's back to Houston for game 6 (and 7 maybe) after the Yankees won the last game of their home stand 4-1. Astros lead 3-2.
