After months of talks to hammer out a $1.1 billion bailout package, Shanghai-based Fosun -- the biggest shareholder in Thomas Cook Group Plc -- decided against committing any more money toward rescuing the British inventor of the package vacation.
Wow.

So I guess saint was correct. Chinese interests ARE the major shareholders in Thomas Cook.

Hope this helps.

No LS it was me. Seriously who uses charter flights (notorious for delays) to get to a multi flight destination. If a major newscaster thinks that is worthy of inclusion then there must not have been much going on in the World.

The collapse of Fosun Group’s flagship European investment, Thomas Cook, is proving to be a reality check for the Chinese conglomerate’s ambitions to create a global travel empire via flashy acquisitions.
After months of talks to hammer out a $1.1 billion bailout package, Shanghai-based Fosun -- the biggest shareholder in Thomas Cook Group Plc -- decided against committing any more money toward rescuing the British inventor of the package vacation. For want of an additional 200 million pounds ($249 million) demanded by creditors, the indebted tour operator filed for liquidation this week.

I knew it was big among EU countries, but had no idea that the UK economy outperformed all these countries combined.

I have even more confidence in the UK post Brexit.

Make that 19 , as i dont see the Maltese flag on there .
The only country with a better economy is Germany , and if we get out of the cesspit soon enough , whilst the German economy is waning , and they have to cough up a bigger cut to Brussels to make up for the lost revenue of the U K , we could within a few years be the biggest economy .
Dont tell this to the cheese eating surrender monkeys , cuz Macron thinks France is important .

Yes, bad timing for the EU with world markets waning. The UK leaving would be a double economic whammy for Brussels .

The UK economy has already shown resilience even with all of the negative political news. Imagine what success will be possible after getting out from under the thumb of Brussels and regaining their sovereignty.

Nah, its the sun setting on the UK mate,
Except what's actually happening in the UK today indicates that their economy is better than many in Europe. The UK economy is even weathering the storm of uncertainty surrounding leaving the EU. If the UK economy was weak, consumer sentiment would be spiking south and the economy would be ticking down, down, down. That's not what's happening.

Good call but I don't think it is setting on Britain, they are resilient and will survive by leaving Brexit, no matter what the non democratic types throw at them. The Westminster Parliamentary system was put in place throughout the Empire and Commonwealth and provided those countries, including my own, to flourish under the Westminster rule of law that the system bought, But, the sun has set elsewhere on their former territories, Britain were a nation that were, in the past, proudly able to cry from the white cliffs towards the world that the " Sun Never Sets on the Empire" their status as a great nation is now under threat. The British empire has waned over time, but ,it still has a huge financial interest in those former Empire now commonwealth countries, and it is possibly naive to now think that Britain would be totally at the mercy of the EU non elects and fall from a strong financial position by leaving under Brexit.
IMO the resilience of the British will prevail and in a few years time their strength will be the subject or discussion and not debating and arguing in regard to staying or leaving the EU. Others will see the benefit and follow.

German factories had their worst month since the financial crisis in September as a slump in the eurozone’s manufacturing sector continued.

Purchasing managers’ index data for Germany’s manufacturing sector gave a final reading of 41.7 for the last month, where a score above 50 indicates growth.

New orders fell by the sharpest amount in seven years, amid subdued demand and global trade pressures.

.

A result that will most definitely hurt the UK economy.

An undercover reporter from LBC, who was posing as an Indian migrant, has revealed that the French law enforcement authorities are assisting human smuggling across the English Channel and into the UK. The French are providing information to smuggling gangs that tells them when it best to plan their trips vs British border agents.

The smuggler charges £7,000 per person.

The smuggler explained the process to the undercover reporter this way: the smuggler will take them as far as British waters, the UK police will pick them up and take them to a police station and hold them for approximately 24 hours. Afterwards, they will be sent to a hotel, and it's pretty much finished. They go wherever they wish.

These illegals are yet another burden on the UK economy.

This does not seem all that outlandish of a claim since the French Police have admitted in the past to dumping migrants in Italy. After being caught, the French admitted it and claimed it was just a mistake.

Financial Times reports that HSBC Holdings is planning to cut up to 10,000 jobs -- mainly executive and management roles.

It is being done to cut costs across the board.

Excellent call Barney. Why does anyone think we will fail as an independent member of the World rather than just a wee contributing vassal state in the new 4th Reich. During the cold war days the first attacks would have been inside Germany, with not a lot of time to mobilise forces. Now they have managed to have the former USSR states as a buffer zone that they hope will slow Mr. Putins tank corps down to enable the EU Army or more likely USA Forces to be mobilised in enough numbers to prevent Germany and France from being overrun. But they need others to help pay for this under the pretense of the EU experiment. Does anyone really believe that Germany and France have anything but their own self interests at heart.

I have proclaimed this from the very beginning of the Brexit vote result. It will be a new and vibrant beginning for the UK, and the beginning of the end for the EU.
