Did the West Indian hit the South African in the head? Burns is the only opener of the 4 used so far who should get a game at Leeds. We should bring in our Burns(not even in the squad) and open him with Harris, the Paki at 3 and the Boer at 4 and get red of the sandpaper twins. I'd also be tempted to bring in Stark and play a batsmen short and go all out attack with the 4 quicks and the GOAT as the only bloke in this series who can bat (either team) is not playing. 4 quicks and the West Indian - just make it a festival of bouncers and body line. That would be fun.

Think they should play a "Test" on the Canterbury strip.

Yesterdays totals Essex 74 - 9
Kent 40 all out (from 9 - 5)
Essex 153 - 7

267 runs and 26 wickets

At one time kent were 28 - 8 and there had been 10 balls where runs had been scored (6 x 4's 4 x 1's) and 8 balls that had taken a wicket :yikes:

Can I assume these county teams are the same level as out state Sheffield Shield teams where they can be picked for England Image
Or are they a lower grade.

It's the highest level before Test selection ..... so about 2 or three grades ABOVE Sheffield Shield knockabouts

I'd also be tempted to bring in Stark
Starc learnt how to bowl at Headingley when he played for Yorkshire. I think it would be a mistake not to select him.

I’ve been missing to the IT internet world of the living lately being at times 1.3 kilometers below the gobi desert. But caught this last post.
Your a funny guy samster. I’ll give you that one, he did play for Yorkshire, it’s not in his bio so maybe he just helped the young boycotts learn a few things about evading the red cherry.
Starc’s whole life was playing for my home state NSW at levels starting from under 17. Then Australia for the last decade or so. He learnt from The other Mitch....Johnson I think it was.
I actually think he should be in the team this time around. The Poms seem settled in their batting against our sedate pace of mr siddle so I think it’s time to rattle a few cages.
Had my crystal ball out last night in my bed and gave it a real good rub and polish. In it I saw some guys who haven’t scored yet going big. Unfortunately they weren’t Poms. According to the crystal ball,
Australia to win outright and put the series to bed so the ashes return on the 747 Qantas jumbo to Australia.
I could be wrong though?

He’s not playing anyway Barney. He came to us a few years back and was a bit raw but bowled well and, from memory, got a few runs too.

20 minute delay but, the convicts lost the toss and batting.

My son watching Jofra warming up in the nets. Bowling left handed for a laugh and, to quote him “every ball straight and swinging”. Your lot in for a long day ... I hope

You might be batting tomorrow because it’s raining again!!

Just checked forecast and tomorrow looks overcast as well so, no respite for the batters

4 years and two weeks since the poms have won an Ashes test. In that time we have won 5 with 2 draws. Can't see anything changing this week. We would have batted had we won the toss and will only bat once. Nice to be back at Bradman's ground(in four visits to Leeds, Bradman made four hundreds - two of them triples – and totalled 963 runs in six innings at 192.60.) with the only disappointment that Smith won't be there to add another 300 odd runs to his Ashes tally.

What a shocker from the Aussies!
Will be a mighty effort to pull this one out of the fire, but all is not lost.

"Leeds is positively bathed in sunshine, bright blue skies, and a perfect day for batting."

Hmm you could bathe Leeds in eau de cologne and it still wouldnt improve the place :-k

"perfect day for batting" ........... 80 all out then
