Taking a girl from a club for a beach surprise and one of my platforms washing away last seen on the way to the Isle of Man and explaining how I lost it to me mam. Watching Bob Marley in the old Olympic stadium in Munich headlined by Fleetwood Mac.

Memories from me, not good or bad ,happy or sad , just memories.
Listening but not really understanding the announcement of the start of WW2 on our battery wireless along with the rest of my family and seeing the tears in my mums eye's when it was announced all males of 18 year's would be enlisted to the army, my brother had just turned 17, then the consternation that all males of foreign origin , my dad was an Italian immigrant over 20 years before, would be interred in a camp for the duration .Followed soon after by the mass evacuation of all kids about my age, then 6 ,to places unknown said to be safe from the expected gas attacks.Returning home 6 months later when the danger was estimated to be past only for our home to receive a direct hit just 8 weeks later which buried my mum , sister and myself alive for over a day before we were rescued, saved by sheltering under a big old wooden kitchen table we sheltered under .
The ominous sound of the air raid siren throughout the next 6 years and the relief when the all clear went and we could crawl out from our underground shelters , having survived yet another attack, only to survey another scene of death and destuction all around us .
The constant feeling of hunger and seeing my poor mum in tears not knowing what she could give us on the meagre ration we were entitled to and seeing her going hungry to give her portion to feed us kids .
I could go on for page after page like this, but although I sometimes relive the experiences in my dreams, generally speaking they have faded with the passing time, but one which never will was the comradie amongst all the neighbours in the same boat, the singing round the old piano in the shelter while bombs were going off all around us, the more bombs the louder the singing, I found out after it was to prevent us kids hearing them and not scream as many were.
They really were the days when you could say "I'm proud to be British .
Age is a matter of mind.
If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Good post grumpy ... Lest we forget.
Everyone suffered and died during the war , not just servicemen , and not just to keep Britain free , but to free the rest of Europe . Maybe Brussels could do with remembering that right now .

I fully agree. We should never forget. I was just a kid and remember when my family was listening to the radio. From BBC in London. The signal for victory in morse …- repeated and then the voice. Her er London sender pa frekvens….. Translated to Here is London sending on frequency..... Following up with messages to the resistance members in Denmark. Where to expect drop down of weapon, explosives and agents and so on.
So I will never forget. I lived in London in 6 months 1953/54. Still seeing the damage the NAZI bombs did to the city and the people.
So thank U from a grateful dane.

Kind regards from maxeboy.

I will admit I get a bit twitchy when visiting my mate in his View Talay high-rise.

The Led Zep event I put down to at least 8 pints of McEwans heavy with some black & tan chasers then helping girlfriends with their black velvets at the Star & Garter across the road. TBH, I can't remember much about the whole night out and bouncing off those standing below meant no serious injuries. The show never stopped as the bouncers missed it and it took them about 10 minutes to find me. Even then they weren't sure if it was me as everyone was hammered or stoned and jumping around. It did make about 2 column inches in the Aberdeen Press & Journal though where I was it was reported that "there were reports of someone falling from the balcony during the bands first encore."

The Barcoo incident was related to several pots and middies partaken by my fellow engineer in crime whereas I was reasonably, comparatively sober. However, it was crowded downstairs and we were in a group upstairs with the balcony against our arses. When he stretched back, one foot slipped and he started to pitch backwards. I reached to grab him and as he slipped beneath me under my fulcrum and with my momentum, I was the one that ended up going over. Probably looked like something that Mick McManus and Jackie Palo choreographed for Saturday wrestling. I Ianded on a certain Mrs Cowie who, in another instance of amazing coincidence, was a victim of someone else falling over the same balcony while seated at the same table at the same pub about 8 years earlier. Anyway, her arm was broken, I spilled my beer and my mate was asking, "Where the f*** did Stevo go?"

Oh the good old days when there was no internet, no smart phones, when there were no forums etc and people didn’t really give a rats and didn’t obsess and feel a need to talk and argue about politics, world problems, money etc. actually I still don’t give a rats. Learning the art of conversations And debates were in the pub and if you kept on and on about something you were just told by the older guys to pull your f...ing head in son.
Grew up south of Sydney just working 5 days a week, winter was surfing and playing footy on Sunday, summer was same surfing weekends and most nights till about 7 or 8 pm when daylight saving came in, yes there were sharks out there, with cricket on Saturday arvo’s 2 till 6. Drink some grog, pull a few bongs. Go out and chase the girls. What a great no care life it was when younger. Actually Need to get back to that attitude.

Absolutely correct Barney. I have watched the demise of all kinds of civilisation's ie Western, SE. Asian, virtually the whole world, with the advent of the Internet and Smart Phones. These have, while opening up so much information for people to assimilate and absorb have changed us into phone zombies and key board warriors who will spend endless hours arguing and just basically wrapped up in our own wee internet cocoon. The next big war where satellites are taken out will cause something resembling the Living Dead with poor wee people no idea how to communicate and wondering what their fingers are for.

So very true .. most certainly somehing i didnt include in my memories list ..all things tekky

Yes technology is fantastic .. the internet , face book twitter bka bla bla ..yes making business n commerce so.much easier but as stated the downside that corresponds with it is the loss of the art on converstation and socialising , a generation or even two lost to the cyber world when it comes to the fundamentals of life .. couples dont talk..old style hobbies like fishing n sports dissapear . people shop.from.home ..and that doent even factor in the humans that are transfixed and addicted to.on line gaming thus destroying anothrr avenue of making friends via the conventìonal routes .. cabbaged robots with little or no.sense of humour ir personality ..few real driends , take away their phones for 24 hours n they go into meltdowlike a druggie ...in the future will ee see cli ics specialising in the rehab of phone addiction ...
Hasnt the cyber world got alot to answer for ... alas it
s only going get worse as scientists n inventors further the techno boundaries.

OMO ..others my dissagree ..

Don't forget "Mother Nature" its only `12,800 years since the world was bombarded by asteroids that bought an end to the ice age, that was not a "one off" add the sun & solar induced brownouts, the more people rely on their gadgets, the more they will be shocked WHEN something happens, it will be total chaos!
