hottest June on record as planet warms up

As millions of people prepare for sweltering heatwaves in the U.S. Midwest and East Coast, scientists say July will likely be the hottest July on record, following the hottest June on record. These types of heatwaves are expected to become more frequent throughout the world as global warming continues, say scientists.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports the average global temperature for June was 1.71 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th century average of 59.9 degrees. NOAA also reported record-breaking decreases in sea ice coverage in the Arctic and Antarctica.

“Our climate is warming,” Ahira Sánchez-Lugo, a climatologist at NOAA, tells TIME. “We have a new normal, we are in a new warmer climate. Just in the 21st century, we’ve set a new global world temperature record five times.”

Robert Rohde, lead scientist at Berkeley Earth, tells TIME that July is also likely to be the hottest July on record, as global temperatures continue to trend towards increasing heat.

Regionally, hot June temperatures broke records in Europe, Africa and South America, and it was the hottest first half of the year for Alaska, Madagascar, New Zealand, Mexico, western Canada and eastern Asia.

Overall between January through June, the temperature averaged out to 1.71 degrees above the 20th century average of 55.3, tying with 2017 as the hottest year so far.

Rohde says this trend can be attributed to human emissions of greenhouse gases. “This trend will continue until humans find a way to change their behavior and stop modifying the atmosphere,” Rohde says.

Meanwhile in the real world. This article is dated 7 July 2019

Europe’s Nordic nations will remain decidedly colder-than-average over the coming days with still no sign of summer in sight, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

“There is no heat out there,” says FMI Meteorologist Jari Tuovinen.

Instead, Tuovinen adds, there will likely be a new cold record-or-two set along Finland’s Eastern boarder on Monday, July 08 — a chilly 10C (50F) is predicted, which could bring new low daily-max temperature records for the month of July to the region.

Norway is expecting even colder temps — locally, a few degrees C below zero is in the forecast

Furthermore, latest GFS runs reveal the rest of Europe’s recent and extensive bout of anomalous cold looks set to intensify over the next 10 days, particularly for central and eastern parts:"

It seems that Europe is the new climate testing ground for the coming Grand Solar Minimum. Mother Nature has gifted the area with a summer that is without summer, or something like that. And Scandinavia is on the front line as colder weather heads south.

The cold times are returning, whether the mainstream report on it or not.

The Russians have known it for decades, and have been preparing accordingly.

While Professor Valentina Zharkova’s latest paper entitled, ‘Oscillations of the baseline of solar magnetic field and solar irradiance on a millennial timescale’ confirms a Grand Solar Minimum from 2020 to 2055, as all four magnetic fields of the sun go out of phase.

The paper has been accepted for publishing in Nature.

OH, more fake news from the Biased Broadcasting Corporation, at least I did not see the phrase 'Global Warming' in the link. The Earth being approximately 4.5 billion years old and the first reliable thermometer , Faranheit ,only 300 years old, an awful lot of ,IMO, of unsubstantiated conclusions are being made, and yes the examination of rocks and icecap thicknesses etc. can reveal hot and cold periods in the history of our World , but hysteria mongers only play into the hands of the likes of wind turbine manufacturers and the new Eco Nazis.

Stop worrying. I can document that I am an inhabitant of the planet and I can state unequivocally that this June was the hottest June I have ever experienced. Not even close to the hottest. Hope that helps.

Well, we know where Joudon comes from. Called De Nile .....

Seriously, yes the climate has changed in the past. But we are interested in what is happening in modern times. Yes, there have been warm periods in the last 2000 years, but it has been established that these were mainly regional events, not global ones. During the Medieval warm period, Asia was cooling. The little ice age was more of a Northern Atlantic phenomenon than a global one - effects elsewhere were more limited and happened later than in Europe. The problem we have with these historical events is we know they happened, but not really WHY. Sometimes there is an event, like a volcanic eruption, which could have been a trigger, but there is just not enough information. In fact, some recent research has linked past climatic events to anthropogenic effects - either increased levels of deforestation, or regrowth after large falls in populations.

What we do know is that the weak warming we had been experiencing since the middle of the 19th century took a large uptick over the last 40 years - and it seems to be increasing. The only known factor we know of that could cause this is CO2. Not saying that other factors are not at work, but surely our science is good enough to identify this if that were the case. Last 20 years has seen 18 of the 20 warmest years on record. And the record keeps getting broken.

Valentina Zharkova - she is an Astrophysicist, not a climate scientist. Yes, sunspot levels are falling - but they have been for 20 years, while the rate of warming has increased. Most scientists agree that the most a new sunspot minimum can do is slow warming, not stop it.

https://www.independent.co.uk/environme ... 19391.html

Climate change “deniers” who claim the rapid temperature rise experienced by the world is part of a natural cycle have been proven wrong by a new study, experts said after it revealed that global warming is happening at an “unprecedented” scale that far exceeds temperature fluctuations during the last two millennia.

Warming in the 20th century, seen over 98 per cent of the world, is in “stark contrast” to previous warm and cool periods such as the “Little Ice Age” when frost fairs were famously held on a frozen Thames, according to the findings in published in the journal Nature.

These occurred on a regional basis and others were seen in different parts of the world.

Researchers examined climate changes over the past 2,000 years which were thought to have been global in nature, such as the medieval warm period from 800 to 1200 AD and the Little Ice Age between 1300 and 1850.

It found that warmer and cooler periods before the Industrial Revolution, when human activity started to put out large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels, were not “globally coherent”.

Climate change is an accepted fact and few challenge that fact. What I query is that if you research the findings and outcomes from the different and sometimes conflicting scientific viewpoints it seems only ONE view is pushed by the MSM.

Your statement is not clear. Yes. Climate change is an accepted fact. The Antarctica was once a lush tropical continent. Now it is covered by a thick sheet of ice. However, extinction-threatening AGW is not a fact. It is a theory or hypothesis that is being promoted and refuted by a vast number of sources.

Where we live in Canada it has been cooler and a little more rain, no warming here.
