Is your Water Supply Secure (Quantity/Quality)
Tap water drying up, crops withering in arid fields
People in the northern and northeastern regions are facing the worst drought in 40 years, with crops withering and tap water on the verge of drying up in some areas. A Nakhon Ratchasima, a provincial waterworks official on Friday warned of a looming shortage of tap water in areas where levels in local reservoirs are dropping.
Are you prepared???
I have never been is a situation like this before living by fresh water lakes all my life

Still have tap water for now, and sufficient water in our own and the village ponds. But come cold season their could be a problem, hopefully not before.

Wife has a 30 gallon container in kitchen as backup if needed. She also has one of those huge red cement containers outside that fills from any rain water we get. Mostly uses rain water to hand wash delicates

Re: Is your Water Supply Secure (Quantity/Quality)
We have a 2000 liter water storage tank that is filled from a well that we drilled several years ago or the 2000 liter water storage tank can be filled from the village water system. In the beginning, we ran just off of the village water system that filled our storage and we eventually decided to drill a 50 meter deep well as the primary source for our water because the village water system frequently has problems. We have two water pumps. One pump pumps the water from the well into the storage tank and the second water pump pumps the water from the storage tank into the house. A lot of the rice paddies that have been recently planted are drying up. The farmers that have access to a creek or pond can pump water into the fields for now, but the water level in the ponds and creeks is getting low and in some places, there is no water to pump at all. If we do not get some rain pretty soon some things are going to get dire.

Re: Is your Water Supply Secure (Quantity/Quality)
best way to know how much water you need is to look your monthly pwa bill,so you will know how far you get with the stored water in case of water shortage and know how to ration...

I too have storage tanks, an 1,800 liter, 1,500 liter and a 500 liter plus a Thai cement jar that I think holds about 1,000 liters. We use about 500 liters a day. I also have a drilled deep well with a submersible pump. As long as the generator runs, that well has never gone dry.minimiglia wrote: ↑July 21, 2019, 8:13 amI have 2 large water storage tanks approx 4000 litres. esential here

You use 500 liters a day? That's unbelievable! The average household consumption is 20 to 30 liters a day.glalt wrote:I too have storage tanks, an 1,800 liter, 1,500 liter and a 500 liter plus a Thai cement jar that I think holds about 1,000 liters. Lots of trees and plants to water plus the washing machine and several showers a day. The cost of our village water is 3 baht per cubic meter. The water is not wasted and I can afford 1.5 baht per day. We drink at least 4 liters a day of bottled watertdaniels wrote: ↑July 21, 2019, 1:45 pmYou use 500 litres a day. That's unbelievable! The average household consumption is 20 to 30 litres a day... , this must include a weekly shower?
ridiculous ....it should be more around 100-150l/person/day ....
we are using about 12.000-14.000L water/month , (household 2 people) this includes also watering many plants..
so 400-500L /day sound more reasonable to me... as info..

We depend on the PWA for our water during dry season as our well water is quite saline (don't use it anymore) and our water use Start June to Start July was nearly 40 cub. ( must have had some rain for the garden as bill can be as high as 1200 Baht) bill was 475 Baht including VAT so we are paying over 10 baht a cub. (1000 liters) We have about 20 Cub storage capacity with one 2 cub plastic tank for PWA water storage. With the rain we have had over the last 3 days we now have around 3/4 weeks worth of water as now there have been 2 days without PWA water supply so things must be starting to get tight. Trying to get the 17 year old stepdaughter to shower outside when raining but no success yet . Was in Nong Han this afternoon and the river/klong was the lowest I have seen in my time up here.

have village water, plus a 4000 litre reserve tank, which can take either roof water, or village water, at the turn of a tap, and further, have a new 60m deep Well, which I will use next season to water our dying rice crops, and to fill the house reserve tank should there be no rain..I will also drill another Well on other land we have..might even buy a drill rig, as I can see a demand in the future..
Re: Is your Water Supply Secure (Quantity/Quality)
One of the farms has a deep drilled well with a two HP submersible water pump. She is now negotiating on a 7 KW generator powered by the tak tak. She wanted a 10 KW but was warned that the 11 HP Kubota tak tak may not have enough power. I told her that a generator set up cost more than rice crop will be worth. She countered by asking what about next year. She is adamant. We already have a 5 KW gasoline generator on another farm that runs a 1 HP submersible. It may be able to run the 2 HP pump but it is too heavy to carry around and it uses a lot of gasoline. The pond on that farm is already dry.

The cost of our village water is 3 baht per cubic meter, 3baht for 1.000L ? , wrong calculation i think?..
even 17 years ago the water price was around 12 baht/1.000 L , now it will be around 15-18 baht depending usage..

We live near the Military Hospital on Taharn Rd and our last monthly PWA bill was 262 B for 20 units + taxes.,
the unit i understand to be 1000 L. So it comes to about 13 B per unit/1000 L.
Have a nice day
