Finally someone who tells congress how it is.

It would be interesting to understand how the egregious gerrymander system in the US intersects with time-serving and seat-warming long term members of Congress.

Perhaps overhauling the former would have a positive impact on the latter. :-k

I keep on seeing glimpses of Socialist behavior

1)I will tell the Drug industries to lower their prices
2) I have requested the CEO to not close his helicopter factory (somebody got something in return for sure)
3) President-elect Donald Trump claimed credit on Thursday for keeping a Ford plant in Kentucky from moving to Mexico
4)The Trump administration will take "immediate steps" to prevent coal and nuclear power facilities in the U.S. from closing.
5) Trump threatens ‘consequences’ for U.S. firms that relocate offshore

But in a way, this is part of the problem. The people you describe too often view the world as us and them. That is/was the root of anti-Italian, Irish, Polish, Jewish, Mexican, etc., discrimination. Legal non-citizens as opposed to illegals, -- OK, I get that. But legal non-citizens come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Too often the people you describe aren't interested in anyone but white Christians.
Illegal immigration is just one problem of many, but let's examine it.

The 'us against them' is the People vs the federal government, not xenophobia or racism or whatever other insinuation or claim that you're attempting to make. The federal government -- for decades -- has allowed illegal aliens to overrun the country and place burdens across the entire society (hospitals, schools, law enforcement, neighborhoods, wages, jobs, prison systems, border enforcement) -- to the detriment of citizens.

If you think that all of Trump's supporters hate people from other countries, you're entitled to that opinion. At no time in my post did I reference any of what you have assumed here, but I have clarified my position on illegal aliens -- again.

Enforce the damn laws.
OK, first, of course not ALL Trump supporters are xenophobic. Sorry if I was unclear about that. But judging from the goings on in the past, say, 18 months, a lot are.

And I totally agree. Enforce the immigration laws. Both parties have had the opportunity (control of Congress and the White House simultaneously) to change them, and neither has. The law is the law. It's not up to the President to waive the law. There is a procedure for people who wish to apply for asylum. Whether people are allowed to remain in the U.S. during the application process, or they aren't, it's all set out in the laws and regulations covering same. I see no reason to ignore them. If Congress wants to change the law, it can.

BOOM!

Sanctuary Cities will now suffer the consequences of undermining federal law. Trump's efforts to withhold federal funds from sanctuary cities was upheld by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Money saved and sanctuary cities may now wallow in their own decisions.
You're celebrating a US president trying to intimidate a US city. Not very American of you.

There appears to be a steep learning curve among those who have screwed over the US in the past.

France is the next one to probably learn a hard lesson.

Trump isn't going to sit by and watch any international tax foolishness continue without taking some action. Trump wants free & fair trade. If other countries don't want it, Trump will balance out things nicely.

France recently enacted a 3% tax on US tech companies. Trump is likely to counter with tariffs on French goods. The French tax applies to companies that draw approximately $850 million in worldwide revenue. Almost $30 million of that comes from France.

USTRs have been tasked with investigating whether the French taxes are "discriminatory or unreasonable and burdens or restricts United States commerce." USTR wolverine Robert Lighthizer is heading it up. France is not the only country being reviewed regarding new taxes on US companies.

Free & Fair Trade -- or tax at your own detriment.
Tax foolishness?

The Orange sex offender is taxing US consumers while giving tax breaks to the very US tech companies who pay no tax in countries like France thanks to elaborate tax avoidance schemes.

Tax foolishness doesn't come close to describing what's happening in reality.

The Orange loss making individual has never been involved in a business that turned a profit so has no clue how these schemes to avoid tax work.

The French are showing the way in how to deal with it. Hopefully they can help develop a similar tax covering all of the EU, so that all EU countries can recover taxes owed by these companies.

What federal law has been broken?

Lock em up if they break the law but collective punishment by vindictively withholding federal funding is outrageous. What kind of third world tin pot dictatorship crap is that?

There are "---- hole" countries laughing at America now. We're watching a great civilisation implode on itself.

You have a hard time keeping up, but probably purposeful.

Cities who ignore federal law and refuse to comply with federal law, are not entitled to any federal tax revenue to assist with city expenses. It was like allowing someone who doesn't pay membership dues to reap the benefits of the membership. Even children understand that behavior concept.

I am celebrating the fact that noncompliance will no longer be rewarded with federal tax revenue.

If you think that's strange, it doesn't surprise me based on your past contributions.

Trump and Americans concerned about illegal aliens within the society are CORRECT AGAIN.

The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine recently completed research that shows that the cost of illegal aliens to American taxpayers is almost $750 billion. The cost is related to their living in the US -- ILLEGALLY -- over their lifetimes as compared to the deportation cost today of about $10,000 each.

The costs are related to crime, social services from all three levels of government, education and health care.
They are a burden in numerous ways on the entire society.

In 2018, there were over 250,000 illegals deported. The cost of their deportation was much less expensive than the financial burden on society. The Federation for American Immigration Reform estimates that illegals cost taxpayers over $115 billion. Deportations conducted in 2018 were about 40 times less costly.

The raids set to begin this weekend are targeting more than 900,000 illegal aliens who have been through the court process and ordered deported by the court system. They have refused to leave. So, they will get to meet their friendly neighborhood ICE agent very soon.

One way or the other, Trump is using every legal avenue available to deter illegal aliens.

STEADY WINNING.

You missed Putin's Poodle and Insecure One. You also overlooked his tariffs. Trump is starting to run the US like a command economy / 1980s Polish shipyard. His executive order tariffs fit in that framework too. The silence from the Republicans is cowardly.

House votes to prevent Trump from entering an unauthorized war with Iran, setting up showdown with Senate over annual defense bill.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national ... story.html

"A majority of senators endorsed a similar measure last month, but failed to come up with enough votes to clear procedural hurdles to include it in that chamber’s defense bill. Republican leaders have opposed the effort because they believe it sends a negative message to Iran that could compromise the president’s ability to manage escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf."

I reckon the whole perilous state of play is primarily down to the president's INABILITY to manage escalating tensions there. Pretty sure "Bibi" is royally grateful for this huge distraction from his personal and political shitfight regardless of it all a wee bit OTT and his skin quite frankly not being worth it.

Congress relinquished those powers long ago. That ship has sailed. After 9-11, Congress relinquished sweeping powers to the president in the name of security and protection.

At the time, candidate Barry Sotero said:

"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation."

Then, as president, the hypocritical Messiah reasoned himself into a position where he never consulted with Congress before committing U.S. forces to Libya and many other warlike circumstances.

Now, Congress somehow wants those powers back?

Don't make me laugh.
