IIHF World Champs
Special mention to Team GB for a monumental effort against Germany tonight. It took until the last 10 minutes for Germany to score the go ahead goal on PP and then get the "insurance goal" a minute later scored by NHL 50 goal man Leon Draisaital.
By comparison Draisaital earns 8.5 million a year compared to the couple of hundred a week by the GB guys playing in UK
BTW after 1 game each GB are currently 7th (out of sandwiched between Canada (6th) and USA (8th)

Yes, it was the greatest upset since homo sapiens eliminated the neanderthals 40,000 years or so ago.
Even though the Germans seemed to defeat the Danes, and have the proof to back it up, some misguided individuals refuse to accept the result and declare Denmark the winners. Controversial or what?

Well, Denmark beat France 5-4...I think.

Canada scored in the last second of the game to defeat Slovakia 6-5. Sweden routed hapless Norway 9-1. I saw a game in Oslo many years ago in which East Germany won 6-2 over the Vikings.

Hardly "little" Denmark ....... 17 years on the spin in Pool "A" against "Mighty" GB who were promoted from 3rd level 2 yrs ago and were rank outsiders last year when they became the first team to manage a second successive promotionLaan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑May 15, 2019, 7:03 pmLittle Denmark crushed Great Britain, 9-0!!! Re: IIHF World Champs
You are right about little Denmark. They haven't won anything, but every now and again, they upset Canada, and hold their own against France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and the other lower ranked teams. Somehow they seem to squeeze out enough points to survive another year in the top pool. Back in the thirties, or perhaps earlier, Britain won a few championships and Olympic medals.
Great Britain made history as the first team ever to win an Olympic, World, and European (its second) Championships and the first to win all three in the same year. They were the first team to stop Canada from winning the Olympic ice hockey gold, following Canada's four consecutive gold medals.
Champions: Great Britain (1st title)
Teams: 15
Runner-up: Canada
Matches played: 37

Crazy .... last year 15 secs to go in the last game in pool 1A and Hungary / Kazakhstan would have been promoted, GB score meaning GB get promoted and Italy go up in second place. This year BOTH GB & Italy survive by winning their last game (GB in OT & Italy by a shootout)

It seems like Denmark and Norway will survive although the mighty Danes were toppled by Canada, 5-0. Sweden and Finland are also marching forward.

noted, also rather ominous is the fact that "the great eight" and co are blowing everyone away and have only allowed 3 goals against in their first 6 gamesLaan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑May 21, 2019, 6:15 pmIt seems like Denmark and Norway will survive although the mighty Danes were toppled by Canada, 5-0. Germany somehow defeated Finland 3-1 providing an interesting upset against one of the top hockey countries at this tournament. One wonders if Sweden will garner their third gold medal in a row.
It was nice to see the British defeat France. This brought back fond memories of Waterloo, Trafalgar and Agincourt.

Sweden is out after their 7-4 loss to Russia. It is surprising they surrendered so many goals.
Denmark bowed out too losing 2-1 to the host nation, Slovakia. With Norway and Finland also eliminated, the Vikings return home without any medals.
