State of press freedom around the world

Post by tinpeeba » April 19, 2019, 2:36 am

In this year's Reporters Without Borders (RWB) review of the state of press freedom around the world the top five are Norway, Finland, Sweden, Netherlands and Denmark.

Thailand is number 136. The bottom five are Vietnam, China, Eritrea, North Korea and Turkmenistan.

The UK rose seven places to number 33 and the US fell to 48.

The RWB's full ranking of 180 countries and a global map is shown here:

Does anyone have any insight as to the process by which the ranking was established? Was it by poll, analysis by selected criteria, or other? Was this limited to the "main media" news sources of the ranked states? Is it being generally accepted as an accurate assessment of global press freedom.

In the U.S. The Establishment-owned "main media" is less free due to them being progressive propaganda mills. Much of what they produce are attempts to indoctrinate the general public in progressive ideology and initiatives, and to skew the workings of the U.S. government leftward.

Does it reflect the politicized influence of internet giants (Goggle, Facebook, Twitter, etc) who commonly suppress and ban those who do not conform to and criticize progressive ideology, programs, and activity?

Yes.
Published annually by RSF since 2002, the World Press Freedom Index measures the level of media freedom in 180 countries. It assesses the level of pluralism, media independence, the environment for the media and self-censorship, the legal framework, transparency, and the quality of the infrastructure that supports the production of news and information. It does not evaluate government policy.

The global indicator and the regional indicators are calculated on the basis of the scores registered for each country. These country scores are calculated from the answers to a questionnaire in 20 languages that is completed by experts throughout the world, supported by a qualitative analysis. The scores measure constraints and violations, so the higher the score, the worse the situation................

Many European countries scored well. That's good news.

I think I understand. It is not based on a hypothetical perfectly free press. Instead those on the top are the cream of the crap.
