I wouldn't stay there for free and the rooms are hardly even close to free. They forgot to add no alcohol or pork served in the restaurant. I toured the place which is situated on a small soi and came away with a one word description - ostentatious!

Rooms start at 1860 Baht on Booking.com....doesn't include breakfast, but all other charges included in this price.

"ostentatious"

Now that is a BIG word and only once have I heard it used and that was by a friend as we drove past a furniture store in Qatar
Yes, it certainly is by the pictures

As low as THB 1,480 including breakfast on Agoda for the same dates.

Booking.com always includes all extra charges in their initial quotation which would be taxes and service charge. Agoda does NOT! Their initial quote online appears low, but they only reveal those extra charges to you as you are checking out. Booking in my experience has always been cheaper than Agoda.

Ostentatious is the first and only word which came to mind after touring the place. The hotel had been under on and off construction for several years and appeared to be abandoned for a long time. They have only 1 restaurant no swimming pool, fitness center, sauna, or spa but are trying to command prices as if it were a 5 star hotel. I'm not sure just what kind of customer they're trying to attract.

Interesting, -- I didn't realize that. Even so, Agoda is still cheaper in this case. Take Agoda's price and add 7% tax, then 10% service charge. Comes to 1,742 baht, or 118 baht per day less than Booking.com.

You can also see that type of differential booking Thai Smile flights. The price on the Thai Smile website is nearly always different from the price for the same flight on the Thai Airways website. Sometimes one is slightly cheaper, sometimes the other.

I guess that the lesson is always compare prices from different buying channels before buying!

Without wanting to be critical of a udonmap sponsor without staying there it does seem an odd style choice for somewhere such as Udon. Are they expecting a huge upsurge in Arab tourists to the area maybe? Wish them luck all the same but its like they've given the wrong GPS coordinates to the builder.

Agree there, not the kind of design/idea you'd expect in Udon. Apparently of Moroccan design, a girl told me, handing out leaflets at a kiosk in Central. I'm sure my 7 year old would be fascinated, but can't believe my family would easily fit in there.

Looks rather too fancy, overly grand I think.

At first, without reading it fully, I thought it actually was a 5 *, but it ain't, which is a pity coz my mate & wife from BKK often come to stay here, & finding a suitable hotel that does have everything without being extortionate is difficult.

They stayed at the Napalai recently - & need to be rewhelmed after that 'experience'.

Thailand has also seen a huge influx of visitors from Muslim countries, part of a quiet but DELIBERATE strategy by the Southeast Asian nation to diversify its visitor profile.
“Considering there are 1.5 billion Muslims around the world, I think this is a very GOOD MARKET,” explains Sanya Saenboon, the general manager of the hotel, one of a growing number of businesses serving a BOOM in ISLAMIC tourists.

I am sure this will be good news to many on this forum. The Muzzies are coming :D \:D/

Wrong place to market a hotel like this unless you plan to bus in visiting muslims. Then again I highly doubt a tour bus could make it down the soi much less pull into the small parking lot. Curious as to where funding for this ill conceived project came from?

I like it . Particularly the jade green bedroom . Looks stunning . The whole place may not be 5 star , but purely on decor and style it sort of makes Centara look like a YMCA .
Not sure what market they are aiming for , not even sure theyve done any market research as it could well be just a hiso Thais folly . Plenty of those around .
Cant see Udon being a mecca for muslims either , so to me an odd one .

No pool, no gym, no alcohol suggest their design and market target is aimed specifically at Muslim clientele. I guess the menu design will definitely confirm the operator's intention. Without the gym, pool and alcohol availability the 5 star rating certainly does not meet international standards

FWIW, the Udon Map staff had lunch there a few weeks ago. The green curry was delicious.

The daughter in law (separated) has a "boyfriend" from Brunei coming over to Udon in a month or two,so we went to check out this place as a possible place for him to stay.
The decor is very hi-so....hard to believe you are in Udon.
They currently have a promotion on with rooms ranging in price from 1800 baht to 9000 baht for the Sultan Suite.
The coffee shop/restaurant isnt too pricey, with one or two exceptions....
Coffee is 65 baht, smoothies 85 baht.....curries (masaman, green, indian) are 180 baht....pasta dishes 200-250 baht and there is an extensive Thai menu.
The ladies will like this hotel. You can hire Arabian dresses from 300-500 baht and the staff will do a photoshoot for you.
I can live with no alcohol at the hotel as there are several restaurants/bars nearby but I am surprised that they didnt,at least, make a small swimming pool when the property was built.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.
