BREXIT BREAKTHROUGH: France CAVES IN over Irish border as May secures huge UK victory
THERESA May's push for a Brexit breakthrough has been dramatically boosted with French officials hinting at a possible compromise on the eve of an EU summit.
By Macer Hall, political editor, in London and Joe Barnes in Brussels
Sources in President Emmanuel Macron's government indicated a surprise readiness to help solve the Irish border row that has deadlocked the Brussels negotiations for weeks.
"There is a possible space to find an agreement," said one French official.
Mrs May is due to address EU leaders on her position in the negotiations ahead of the summit dinner in Brussels tonight. However, Theresa May will be excluded from the meal where the leaders of the 27 nations staying in the EU after Brexit will discuss the state of the talks.
British officials were expecting little progress at the summit, with the Prime Minister understood to be focused on ensuring the technical negotiations between UK and EU officials stay on track.
And today French finance minister Bruno Le Maire confirmed that a Brexit deal was not far away and could be reached in the coming weeks.

Daltrey: "It’s nothing that can’t be solved. I mean, we used to work in Europe before Europe was even thought about, or the EU was even thought about."
Geldoff: "It's two-fold. One is the income it generates for this country, £94bn, contrast that to the NHS spend, of £115bn, almost the same."
I wonder which one of these two would make the better politician?
My opinion? Definitely the Gobsh!te where a £21bn or 22% difference is 'almost the same'.

Pocket money....
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.
