Bit of follow on from the Washington victory...
coach Barry Trotz has resigned, less than two weeks after leading them to their first Stanley Cup title.

The 55-year-old, who spent four seasons at the Capitals, triggered a two-year extension to his contract by winning the Stanley Cup.

Apparently...
However, the financial terms of the deal were below market value, according to media reports.

The Capitals and Trotz were unable to agree a deal for him to stay as coach.

He was an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, which makes it even more stupid of the Caps not to tie him down well before now....

Wonder if the Islanders will make a move for him?

It would make sense. The Islanders need a coach and now there is a good one available for hire.

Washington's management disliked Trotz, and he did not like them so it was little surprise that he is gone. In basketball the coach of the Toronto Raptors led them to first place and their best record ever. After Cleveland swept Toronto in the division final, Casey, the Toronto coach was fired. He was hired by the Detroit Pistons.
