Taxi/van service into Laos

Post by BigBubba » February 22, 2018, 10:53 am

I've heard of a service that will transport you across the border without having to make the multiple stops of exit and entry. I need to make a visa run, but my mobility is somewhat limited at the moment. Anyone have information about this service? Post or PM me please.

Thanks!

There is supposed to be a regular busservice from Busstation No 1 to Vienntianne. If you need to apply for a Laos Visa you must arrange this beforehand. Anyone who knows the procedure for Scandinavians who are Visa Exempt?

I believe that you will find the minibus guys at the visa & transportation shops that are in the same shop house row as the 7/11, just before the bridge.
I have, personally, never used one as the prices they wanted to charge seemed rather excessive to me when compared to doing it the normal way, but it would certainly be an easy option if mobility was an issue..

even with a visa in your passport you'll still have to stop at the bridge to stamp-in and then again to stamp out on your return.. If you take the Vientiane Bus you must have a Lao visa in your passport. That bus stops at the Thai side to let you stamp out, then stops and waits on the Lao side for you to stamp into Lao. I believe if stops near the old Morning Market area bus station.. You could zip down to Khon Khaen and buy a Lao Visa. The Lao Consulate is located about 2 kilometers south of the KK Ring Road on your left. You can't miss the Lao flag flying out in front of it.. They'll turn around a visa for you in about an hour or so...

Hey Bob! Unfortunately I'm forced to overlook the adverse monetary situation. I've got a cast on my ankle. Long way to hobble the regular way.

Sorry to say that I managed to achieve nothing finding anything out for you Bubba.
There didn't seem anything in the way of taxi hire in that area now.
The area is no longer open behind 7/11 to gain access to the parking area behind it, so I don't know if that has driven them elsewhere..
There are tuk tuks by the score but no one approached me asking if I want a taxi to Vientiane, which has always happened in the past.

Ok got my Laos Visa in Khon Kaen, very quick and easy process btw, so how do I get info on the Vientiane bus from Udon? Where does it drop you in Vientiane? Same place for return to Udon? Times, price, etc.?

Thanks
