A competent plumber
Can anyone recommend one?
The job will not be difficult (replacing the drain under a sink, which has started to leak [drip] with like for like) and I live fairly close to the airport
I, politely, refused the suggestion of the last guy who wanted to encase it in silicon when it is obvious (even to me) that the existing rubber seal/gromit/washer [call it what you will] has started to perish and just needs replacing.
Worth pointing out that I have a replacement to hand for the whole assembly if needed.
Any recommendations will be very much appreciated.

Re: A competent plumber
I know a guy who did a good job resetting a toilet for me, he seems to be more of a handyman than a plumber though. PM me if you want his info, dont want to post it here in public.

I don't get it....
A worn out seal "is" worn out. Just replace it.
I have read about many peoples "plumbing" problems here in the last many years, and most are common sense solutions.
Example: you complain about running toilets in the 2nd floor of your house. Well, guess what? Heat rises, the toilet water get warm, heat makes algee, algee forms on the baffle, with the wipe of your finger you may just fix that.
Duh?

Its algae..green, slimey..wipes off with your fiinger. Inside the tank, not the bowl.
If the water keeps running, open the tank, lift up the baffle and wipe with your finger, Seal is better, water stops running. Don't panick ..and hire a plumber

Re: A competent plumber
How does green algae get into a toilet tank? Only if the supply to the tank has green algae in it. The tank should be dark so no growth. Suggest that if you have green slime in your toilet tank, look to where the water is coming from. Possibly your main water storage tank is not opaque enough.
If brown slime is probably just bacterial growth/sediment.

Re: A competent plumber
I have a galvanised hot water pipe that has a leak. A handyman has done a temporary fix but I don't think it'll last long. I think the pipe needs a proper repair or replacement.
Anyone know of a good plumber who could help me?
Thanks in anticipation

Algae does not need light to grow
Throw some vinegar in the tank or look up on You Tube for alternate fixes
Hope this helps
