Where is the Baht headed?

Post by Doodoo » January 12, 2018, 4:02 pm

Less than 32 to the USD and sliding

2 years ago the baht was worth 36.3 to the Dollar now 31.9, 4.4 baht less or the USD has slide 12.2 %

With this the exports of Thailand are more expensive therefore less buying of Thai products by other countries On a $1,000,000 order which isn't at all that big it would cost the buyer an extra $100,000 as compared to 2016
More expensive for Expats to bring in money , if they are to live here

The upside Thais get more for their money and can buy and travel

But in the end where will it all end 31, 30, 29 ...... who knows

The baht is grossly over rated, and why are all imported goods still so expensive ?? shoud have come down by now, or who is profiteering?
Thailand is long overdue for another crash.

Think it is mostly due to the USD being in the toilet among most currencies. How is the Baht versus the Pound and Euro?

Baht against the US Dollar is going down fast at the moment but most things are against the US dollar.
It broke through the 2014 July and August support after that dropped a lot Lowest since November 2013 at the moment

The Pound is doing OK though at the moment.

This is the Raid on paper fiat..get your paper into something , rather than nothing.
Hint: Banks print "Nothing" and trade it for 'something".
A No-Brainer

good article in the Post, today. Basically, The Indonesian Rupiah is starting to slide, and it is often considered a bellweather for SEA currencies. A possible canary in the coal mine.

decent week for the USD...maybe the freight train is changing course. May is the worst month for the Baht against the Dollar. 2009 and 2017 were the only years the Baht strengthened, during May.

Dunno about the $. But I watch the Baht-Pound everyday.
Seems strange. I notice the pound gains strength mid month.
But come end of month, loses again
The pound was 43.95 (buying) on 12th April.
Soon as the songarn was over, and banks open dropped like a stone.
Is there a system where the banks here can manipulate the exchange rate?
All the farangs withdrawing their pensions etc at end of month, must be a good earner!

they have a little room to manipulate, as they likely have a heads up of what is coming in immediately after a holiday. They can also open the rate at 8:30, then change it at 8:45, after all the money was transferred at the opening rate. I have certainly seen far worse shenanigans. The Post mentioned that many Thai companies pay dividends in April and May to foreign stockholders, coupled with a big drop in tourism after Songkran...usually causes weakness. I say it is overvalued (the THB vs. the USD)....It is truly a double edged sword, and strong currency can just as likely mean turmoil as it can economic boom. The Dollar strengthened considerably vs. the THB in 2009 and the US economy was swirling down the toilet.
