This is going to be tough on some bars without a doubt, I've already heard of Farang changing bars because the owner added 5 baht to a bottle of beer so what are they going to be like with a significant rise? Of course it wont affect those who sit there cuddling one beer all night, and there's quite a few of those in town already, but they won't keep a bar in business either. Despite their protestations, some bars are already struggling and my best guess is that at least a few punters will buy and drink at home and it will hit the trade a bit hard.
For sure some will struggle and or go under ... but IMO some one who budgets to spend a certain amount of money on booze or cigarettes will still do so .... depending on the increases announced tomorrow we will see in the coming months how it all pans out.

Just seems ridiculous rise, mind you how many times has the gov done one thing ,2 weeks later it's all abandoned and back to the old ways. as jon say's lets wait and see TIT
Some of the proposed increases are very harsh with tariffs coming in to tax the products at the retail rate rather than at the first point of sale which is importer to wholesaler .. how this will be calculated is still open to conjecture.. its possible that a draft keg my be treated differently as unlike bottles n cans it only has a single point of sale which is always wholesale not retail and is sold in many different sizes both the keg and the glass sizes over the bar ... who can say how this will be calculated ???... wait n see .
