I do want to buy a gun. I am interested in a high quality air rifle that is suitable for precision target shooting. And yes, I know one will be expensive. Around 30,000 baht. I prefer German made.

For JR, the bs from the guy was from him telling us (short version) that my wife could not buy a gun, BUT, there was a way. The way of course is the usual way to do business here with cash under the table. I think the guy knows his guns and has more interest in them than the folks at the other gun shop. Those people were straight forward in their dealing with us.

For glalt
The air rifles available locally, when you can find, them are Gamo, made in Spain. They seem to be well made adult guns but I doubt you will get match accuracy out of them. Pellets are available and mainly RWS aside from the Chinese crap. The problem is the ones available change and if you have a favorite for your gun you may not find it again . Sorry, no Feinwerkbau here. Gamos run around 23,000.

It is no surprise that few are knowledgeable about weapons here. They are expensive and as some one said about shooting a 38, each shot is a bowl of noodles. Ballistics are a mystery since the ammo and pellet choices are limited to what is on the shelf and that is limited. There are no reloading components available or equipment to do so. My wife and I participated I a pistol match a few months ago. The ammo manufacturer in BKK was there selling ammo and there were 2 choices of ammo for 38s, both 148 gr wad cutters, one supposedly loaded more precise. This ammo is sold as reloaded, the components are apparently imported and loaded in BKK. Pistol bullets are not jacketed, even for semi autos it is lead. It is possible to find some US ammo but damned expensive like 57 TB for one factory 357 a couple years ago when I checked.
This is more info than asked for but I suspect there is some interest.

Interesting. I had thought but didn't know we were no longer allowed to buy a firearm. Personally from the choices available before, Remington 870 12 guage 3 in. mag. I had one for years. Personally I doubt any Thai could teach me much about guns or how to shoot. The pistol choices used to be .38/.357, 9mm pipsqueaks, and I think .22. I'd take the wheel gun in .357, carried a S&W .357 in Mod. 19 and 586 for many years, working. .45 is "god's gun" but not available as I understand. Like anything else here, you got the money you got the merchandise. A carry license was available at one time, expensive as all git out, better know somebody high up the chain and may Buddha help you if you shot a Thai.

Wrong. :D

I'd have to deny my own experience to agree with you.

I'm pretty sure this is the shop... My rudimentary Thai says the sign on top says "Somboon's Gun"

Frazee you are right, sort of. The old shop is in the building in your pic. The new shop is a bit further back from where the picture is taken and on the left, other side of the road. Opposite the New Holland tractor showroom. On SriSuk Road.

Greetings,
After a long time, much red tape and many turns, we now have our carbine. It is a .22 cal as it is cheaper ammo and I would prefer not to kill a possible intruder with the first shot.

Maaka, neither. We have a semi automatic carbine, a Colt M4 with 25 cartridge mag. Main difference to a pistol or revolver is range. A pistol is ok up to 20 meters and the rifle 400 especially if you fit an electronic sight. Different calibers are of course available to either type.

Rodger that JR, somehow i had it in my head you were after a handgun, and your word carbine threw me, even though I know what a carbine is. Had an M1 .300 carbine way back when god was a boy, and was a professional hunter for ten years, so have fiddled around with many a thing. Anyway, glad you got something.

This is the item. The M1 300 is very different.
