Re: TOURISTS BLAMED FOR PIRATE GOODS
"The Tourism and Sports Ministry have met with tour groups’ representatives to request that tourists are not taken to places where pirated goods are on sale"
OK gotcha, ehm, but didn't you just say in the previous paragraph ......
" 90% of all pirated goods on saleare being offered in tourist areas such as Patpong in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket."
so where exactly are the tour groups supposed to take the tourists?
I know, lets make somewhere like Chumphon the hub of the Thai Tourist Industry and tell those nasty pirate type people they are not allowed to go there :-"
gotta be worth at least two or three new gongs an idea like that =D>

"you can,t make this sh,t up" 'cept, you did.
No one's denying the availability of pirate goods in Thailand. But I'd venture a guess most comes from China and elsewhere. CD's, music, movies, porn videos.......Thais seem to be good at those.....but do people really buy that stuff any more?

Re: TOURISTS BLAMED FOR PIRATE GOODS
what did i make up?????it was a bit of a tongue in cheek post parrot,no need to get your knickers in a twist,is the heat getting too you?,surely it would be easier for them to clamp down on the stalls selling the fake stuff instead of blaming the tourists,no stalls selling fake stuff= equals no fake stuff to buy,i didn,t right the piece ,i just copy and pasted it

I worked in Iraq for 2 years as a civilian contractor. I was always amazed at the local vendors who were allowed to set up their operations on U.S. military bases selling pirated merchandise.

Re: TOURISTS BLAMED FOR PIRATE GOODS
When was you there 747Man? When we were there a while back the market in Vientiane on the river front had just about everything in the way of genuine copies, I could buy G Shocks for 299 baht, if you looked close you could see they were fake but they were pretty good. Will be a right shame if they've clamped down on that market, me and the Mrs loved it there.
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.
Re: TOURISTS BLAMED FOR PIRATE GOODS
747 is talking about the 'duty free area' immediately as you enter Laos over the bridge.
The market you mention is a completely different area.

Re: TOURISTS BLAMED FOR PIRATE GOODS
Not to sure how this pirate goods thing works ....... lets see if I've got it right .....
If the owner of a footy club has replica shirts made in Thailand for next to nothing, and sells them in the "Club Shop" for fifty quid each ...... that's OK
If Joe Public (footy fan) buys a replica shirt made by the same company and available at the local Thai market for cost + a small mark up (B150) that is illegal.
The guys that made the shirts are getting the same amount for them, the only guy losing out is the greedy club owner, surely it is what HE is doing that should be illegal

Re: TOURISTS BLAMED FOR PIRATE GOODS
For 'greedy club owner' insert, 'Nike','Apple','Any Global Brand you like' & you are correct Statts..
Why is what they are doing 'legal' & if you do it 'illegal'?
Because they have masses of money to bribe law makers to make it so..

Re: TOURISTS BLAMED FOR PIRATE GOODS
I was actually thinking of Freddie Shepherd who many many years ago revealed the shirts being sold at NUFC cost less than a quid each and were made in Asia
