Last year, khom loy lanterns (see above) were banned in Udon. Yet unclear, whether this will happen again. In previous years it always had been a big Thai festival at Nong Prajak. Starting between 20:00-21:00 hours.

Participation rates of the local Ghetto-people (Farangs) were unknown due to the darkness.

Press reports on attempts to ban the khom loy this year again, yet in other nearby cities.

So please stay tuned.

But - also in Udonthani!

What happened? On Ook Pansa - end of October - a few lanterns were started all over the town.

Must be quite difficult shooting yourself in the feet when they are small - particularly when you are blind.

And what about all that blood when you stick the wounded foot in your mouth? ;)

Indeed.
As the Thai people know that they are living in a tropical climate they woud not come in shorts or otherwise half-naked.

Yes but they seem to manage it very easily, according to my Thai friends instead of creating happiness the current Thai Govt is having the opposite effect and NO amount of TV stirring talks will change anything .

So Chiang Mai seems to be the only bigger city that gives priority to the old tradition of letting lanterns fly at Loy Krathong. A decision surely supported by tourism considerations.

Udon will again stress the importance of krathongs (กระทง).

So no lanterns this year again. Was known or expected shortly after Ook Pansa, end of October. As people were planning the events on November 25. Udon concentrated on the floating (loy) boats (krathong) again, the original expression form at this event.
