Sad news on the death of Colin Powell, from Covid complications.

It seems he was basically a good man, who was duped by Bush's neo-con gangsters into providing cover for the illegal, and now proven cluster-fuuck that was the 2nd Iraq invasion.
Colin Powell
Re: Colin Powell
Truly a great General Politician and yes a GREAT Person
Re: Colin Powell
Some say he was duped by the UK's dodgy dossier too, Jack. All the same, a respectable man.

Re: Colin Powell
Yes, yes, he seemed like a good man. At least he seemed more trustworthy than most politicians/military men around the world.

Re: Colin Powell
Hence the 'professional' politicians general dislike for him.Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑October 19, 2021, 3:30 amYes, yes, he seemed like a good man. At least he seemed more trustworthy than most politicians/military men around the world.

Re: Colin Powell
I knew him as Secretary of State when I worked for the STate Department. Good man, gave a damn about trying to improve the organization. Brought in decent people to make it a better place. Wasn't consumed with racking up Secretary of State frequent flyer miles to visit as many countries as possible.. On the Gulf War stuff I don't think Powell was duped by anybody. He was a canny man, connected with Intel and hardly some rube when it came to analyzing what was going on..

Re: Colin Powell
Yes, that's how I see it. His speech to the UN was catastrophic to subsequent US interests. At least on a personal level his response was pretty straight up. I suspect he rose to his great heights from talent rather than kissing arse as seems to be an increasingly common path to high office these days. I also have great respect for how he responded to the rise and fall of Trump.
