Good for you for keeping on top of your health concerns, however readers should
considered carefully before requesting medical tests that have not been recommended by their doctor.
Studies show that routine PSA tests of 1,000 men ages 55 to 69 prevent one prostate cancer death. But the PSA also has risks. https://www.choosingwisely.org/patient- ... te-cancer/
Men who are 55 to 69 years old should make individual decisions about being screened for prostate cancer with a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test.
*Before making a decision, men should talk to their doctor about the benefits and harms of screening for prostate cancer, including the benefits and harms of other tests and treatment.
Men who are 70 years old and older should not be screened for prostate cancer routinely.

Thanks Jello for your input to a serious problem amongst us older men.The PSA test is far from the only way you can check your Prostate, infact it's a quite "dull"test,it can help you together with your Doc if other more invasive test has to be done. But it's better then nothing me think, agree Jello?
And so many of us are afraid of the test, but for a starter a simple bloodtest is maybe okey..better maybe then one of Doc's finger up were the sun never shine ;-)

Ayway,my thoughts only,so take it for what it is,and like you said Jello,do this together with your Doc..Me i shoose to go to UdonLab once a year PSA and Male Hormone test..and to top it of with full Bloodwork..done.

It’s a personal choice. It’s fine if you’ve weighed the benefits vs risk and still want to know. However some may feel the risks outweigh the benefit.

From the CDC:
Possible Benefits of Screening
The benefits of screening for prostate cancer may include—
* Finding prostate cancers that may be at high risk of spreading, so that they can be treated before they spread. This may lower the chance of death from prostate cancer in some men.
* Some men prefer to know if they have prostate cancer.

Possible Harms
The possible harms of screening for prostate cancer include harms from screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
Possible Harm from Screening
False positive test results: This occurs when a man has an abnormal PSA test but does not have prostate cancer. False positive test results often lead to unnecessary tests, like a biopsy of the prostate. They may cause men to worry about their health. Older men are more likely to have false positive test results.
Possible Harms from Diagnosis
Screening finds prostate cancer in some men who would never have had symptoms from their cancer in their lifetime. Treatment of men who would not have had symptoms or died from prostate cancer can cause them to have complications from treatment, but not benefit from treatment. This is called overdiagnosis.

Prostate cancer is diagnosed with a prostate biopsy. A biopsy is when a small piece of tissue is removed from the prostate and looked at under a microscope to see if there are cancer cells. Older men are more likely to have a complication after a prostate biopsy.
A prostate biopsy can cause—
* Pain.
* Blood in the semen or ejaculate.
* Infection.
Possible Harms from Treatment
The most common treatments for prostate cancer are surgery to remove the prostate and radiation therapy.
The most common harms from prostate cancer treatment are—
* Urinary incontinence (accidental leakage of urine). About 1 out of every 5 men who have surgery to remove the prostate loses bladder control.
* Erectile dysfunction (impotence). About 2 out of every 3 men who have surgery to remove the prostate become impotent, and about half of men who receive radiation therapy become impotent.
* Bowel problems, including fecal incontinence (accidental leakage of bowel movements) and urgency (sudden and uncontrollable urge to have a bowel movement). About 1 out of every 6 men who has radiation therapy has bowel problems. https://www.cdc.gov/cancer/prostate/bas ... -harms.htm
Also from the CDC:
Facts About Prostate Cancer Screening
For every 1,000 men between the ages of 55 and 69 years old who are screened, about 1 death will be prevented, and 3 men will be prevented from getting prostate cancer that spreads to other places in the body.
Many men with prostate cancer never experience symptoms and, without screening, would never know they had the disease. https://www.cdc.gov/cancer/prostate/bas ... -harms.htm

I agree with what info you put forward,BUT i was ONLY taking about a simple bloodtest (PSA)..i'm that kind of guy that want's to know so i maybe can take countermeasures if needed..like in weight controll, exercise, food and whatever else i can do so i DON'T have to do all the other tests..if possible...but that's me and i don't think i'm alone.

Thanks Jello for your input...Have a great and healthy day everyone....seems like DM need it most ;-)

Sounds good but does a doctor evaluate your test results after you go to UdonLab? If not, those numbers may not be giving you the full story. Something to consider:
However, more recent studies have shown that some men with PSA levels below 4.0 ng/mL have prostate cancer and that many men with higher levels do not have prostate cancer (1). In addition, various factors can cause a man’s PSA level to fluctuate. https://www.cancer.gov/types/prostate/psa-fact-sheet
I want to get some tests done at UdonLab before my next checkup. Does anyone there speak English or should I bring a Thai speaker with me?

I have had Prostate Cancer – and treatment. I will say unequivocally that ALL men over (say) 45 should have a PSA test once a year AND keep a record of it.
To call it a PSA test sends the wrong signal as it’s not a go/no go test. The results should be viewed over many years and only when the results start to rise from one’s own base reading should you take the next step
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left

I do a "wellness" check-up once a year, and sometimes twice, at the Army Hospital on Hwy 2 coming south out of town before the Ring Road. They have a very good department that only does the check-ups, and they are very fast and efficient. I do an upper and lower abdominal ultrasound which includes checking the size of the prostate, and the price is only 1600 Baht for both. Unfortunately, up until this year the price for both was only 800 Baht, so inflation finally hit the hospital prices. The cost for a PSA test is only 300 Baht. I have done my wellness checks at three private hospitals in Udon, and the Army Hospital beats them by a mile on price and service.
Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

That sounds like a better deal. Thanks for the recommendation. =D>

I was just diagnosed with one of those. Since the surgeon is not seeing anyone at this time, I have a telephone interview with him on 11 February. At the moment, I am in the 'non-urgent' stage.

A look at soy and a brief look at dairy milk:

NutritionFacts.org looks at other foods and prostrate problems/cancer on youtube. I post this as someone might be highly motivated to try altering their diet. Of course, this isn't a substitute for consulting a doctor.
