Dental Implant

Post by Jai » January 25, 2017, 1:11 pm

Hi
I have been going to the Dentist near Maeya since I came here some years back--Rak Fun--I noticed its been mentioned a few times on here. I have been happy with her work. Now I have a broken tooth and want to replace it with an implant--however she does not do Root Canal (which of course you have to do to kill off the nerve ) She took an X-ray gave it to me and said I would have to go to one of the hospitals-- I asked her what one she recommends out of Aak or BKK--and she wouldn't recommend, said she was close friends with both the dentist--& both were good.

I have friends who have had horror times at Aak--(not the dental dep) , but any recommendations out of the 2 ??.
It had crossed my mind to go down to khon kaen, but it will be a few visits--so that's a bit of a drag. I prefer Female Dentist, those tiny Asian hands so much better than some of the male dentist I have had in the west.

Do you mean you will need a crown?
An implant is the placement of a screw into the bone to hold the new tooth ,lots of difference .
A crown may run to 2k whereas an implant you are looking at 50k per tooth .
Wattana dentist opposite the main bus station does both .

Thanks to both domfrmoz & Charlieb for your time in answering----yes it was an implant domfromoz, the tooth has broken off below the gum line making it impossible to just cap it.
I will contact Dr Yada tomorrow Charlieb---Thank you.

My friend of over 25 years in the Dental field wants me to post this:
You cannot put a implant in a root, unless you use a Mini Zest which is only used to supplement a "over-denture".
To implament this implant, it needs to be in the bone, there fore the tooth (root) needs to be extracted, and anolog placed in the jaw bone.
Please be aware, once you extract the root, the mesial and distal points of the remaining teeth will start to collaspe towards the socket site..meaning: you need to get the replacement tooth in there before "movement changes your Treatment Plan".
Good luck.

Call her on one of the days you know she's at BUH and ask her.

Thank you for the Info felixcat--I have 5 implants from Australia now over 29 years old--As I understood it the root canal is to drill into the bone & remove (or kill) the nerve so you never have a problem of pain once the false tooth is in. I thought the Post (or Mini Zest) would then go into that hole---I know in Australia, I think that's what they done(long time ago) and sent me away for a month or so until the bone could grow around the post. But maybe I have that wrong.
Thanks again

Before we go too far down the road of amateur dentistry, dental implants are relatively simple conceptually. As WebMD describes it, once the tooth has been removed (or is lost), a hole is drilled in the bone (jawbone for lower, maxilla for upper). Then the tooth root implant, which is a small post made of titanium, is placed into the hole, or bone socket of the missing tooth. As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw. The healing process can take from six to 12 weeks.

Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post -- called an abutment -- is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. To make the new tooth or teeth, your dentist makes impressions of your teeth, and creates a model of your bite (which captures all of your teeth, their type, and arrangement). The new tooth or teeth is based on this model. A replacement tooth, called a crown, is then attached to the abutment.

This Wikipedia page also has details about, and photos of, the process. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_implant

Good luck on getting a titanium implant in Thailand. I asked the Dr here if those were titanium screws he put in my wifes foot. He chuckled and said "They are high quality stainless steel.

These all provide titanium dental implants. Different metals for different applications. Stainless steel is frequently used in orthopedic surgery.

Yes--Still with the implants, have seen Dr Yada (BKK/Udon) I must have 1, but as I also have lost some teeth the other side of the mouth--2 would be a lot better. I have not had to have any extensive dental work in Thailand, but
Does this sound a little on the heavy side..??

150,000 for 2 implants--not firm as they might need to do other work.

This is the type of implants that the Admin alluded to in a few posts up---I will be doing a ring around, & let you know on the other hospitals.
Thanks

Last week a filling broke, I booked as always with Wattra Dental Clinic opposite the bus station. Saw an unqualified dentist and was told I must see specialist for root canal, post and cap, about 20k baht, second time for this type of diagnosis in the past few years. Being fed up and realising they are now cash scammers I left never to return. I went to a dentist 50 metres down from Landmark on the same side towards Nong Khai. The female dentist speaks perfect english, rooms are spotless and high tech, she repaired the filing in 30 minutes, no injections and no pain, 700 baht, UD Clinic now has our family business, fantastic.

Resently my Big Bro in Chiang Rai callled me from the Dr's Office there. He was having a 3 tooth replacement, with the mesial and distal tooth being the abuntments, (anchors), Started out as a 3 tooth bridge over implants, , but the lab split the 3 teeth into 5 teeth and billled for extra work. But not as much as the Dr;s 20,000 each, additional charge. But as 20 some years experience proved to me, the extra teeth are never billed to the Dentist by the lab, Instead the Dr see;s an opportunity to charge for each additioanal tooth. And most do.
