If you have tryed Google "Hernia"before asking/starting a new thread you would have found THIS:

VHi there my friend !

6 month ago i went hospitalshopping and this is what i ruffly ended up whith:

AEK=50-->60K..Epidural..3 days in hospital.

Wattana= around 50K..Epidural..1-2 days in Hopital

Bankok Hospital in Udon= around 50K..Epidural..1-2 days in Hospital

And the winner is....Military Hospital..around 12-->15K..Epidural..If i can go home same day..doc said no problem.

I'm talking years back, but had hernia op at small private hospital in Nongbualamphu - 18,000 baht. I'm very sure that the operating theatre staff were all 'imported' from the government hospital anyway. As someone says, depends on what you're happy/willing to pay and the comfort/facilities you desire. Incidentally, found the wound very difficult to keep dry because of the heat and need to shower. Infection did occur - did it all again - for free! :D

I also had a hernia opp years ago, make sure you get the new technique using key hole surgery, I had the old fashioned way and it hurt for six months or more, go the military hospital, it will more than likely be a surgeon that also works in the private hospitals.

Hi..had it done 5 years ago..make sure you move/lift anything, before you have op..when you get out of bed , learn how to do it by rolling onside, using arms to push yourself up..
Is 2 threads on UTalk ..in Health Issues, page 2..
My hernia came back, not as bad...
Good luck..

Thank you for the answer.

...hmmm,50.000...3 days VIP i understand that it would cost you alot.In Sweden,if no complications, you do it in ONE day and if you and the Doc.says and feel it's okey to go home same day,you can do so.
I was quoted around 12-->20.000 Bath at Military Hospistal..Epidural.ONE day in Hospital..

here the latest news .
i will have it done end of july .

bkk hospital 80.000,-- baht and pending on condition of the patient . can get higher .2 days in hospital.

aek udon , 70.000,-- included 1 day . and also depending the condition of the patient .

military hospital . had consult and price 30.000,-- including 1 night .
waiting list 3 months. can go end of july .
operation old way . just cut you open son .

i heard many very positive reviews regarding the professional qualifications at the military hospital .

it is in principle a simple operation . the doctors are ok . i see no reason to spend much more money for a vip treatment.

Thirty years ago I had the old fashioned cut you open method, you would be crazy to go that way today with key hole surgery and a fast recovery as opposed to months of pain.

i had left side done old method 8 years ago in Holland. same day going home .
no much pain . no problems untill now .
now have right side hernia.

may be ....... 30 years is talking about another century ??

i do not think Thai military doctors and patients are crazy . military hospital has a very good reputation .

and besides , Thai international hospitals like Bangkok Hospital and AEK Udon also still offer both methods .
they did not try to push me to use only the key hole method.

i have a good feeling with the military hospital . the surgeon told me he uses the "cut you open "method .
so , that it is going to be .

Hi guys !

Went to Military Hopsital (MH)this morning to book a time for my groin hernia.Met the doc.older man age between 50-60.He checked me out and i asked him that i hoped he didn't anything against me asking him a few Q:s.

Started with asking how many Groinsurgerys he had preformed...ohhh,moore then 1000..

I asked him about cut open OR Keyhole...cut open..

I just wanted to ask him a few Q:s moore then he suddenly got upset,he didn't like at all to have to answer a few of my Q:s at all..He just said..you want or not,up to you..

Well,he was an older grumpy Doc.that's for sure..Wanted to ask him if relapses is a common thing..Post pain, what to expect..What kind of sedation he would use on me..and a few moore..But i guess he didn't care..Don't really know what to think OTHEr then he had 1000+ surgerys..so he has experience preforming these kind of surgerys..big plus in my book. But not willing to answers a few Q:s from a man he is NOT taken this surgery lightly..But this is TiT,not Sweden,i know.

What about Goverment Hospital..anyone had this surgery done there?Or Khon Khaen..

Have a good day all..

Should DuiDui believe the more than 1,000? This is Thailand.

The only time I had significant surgery it was in farangland and I paid for it as I didn't then have insurance. Doctors in my country earn well under 50% of what they extract from patients and insurers in the US.

It was cut open because the surgeon had to have a really good look around. Stupid me. I didn't read up on it. I later read that it was technically an easy operation and I decided I should have had a trainee in the public system do it as it was straight forward. Your surgery seems relatively straight forward so many Thai doctors should be able to do it satisfactorily?

Many Thai Drs think they are demigods , and Nurses are scared big time to even suggest when things go wrong.

The fact you challenged him, I would worry, of those 1000, how many had complications ? that should have been the next question, or was the rehab normal, etc

Of course he would never reply in the negative.

Basic Surgery nowdays, the worry for me , will always be the quality of the anaesthetic delivered and if you have any other clinical conditions that could cause complications during and post op recovery.

BP, cardiac ECG, respiratory conditions, liver ( if your a heavy drinker your liver chews up the medications 50% faster, and that's a serious issue, when u start to wiggle whilst under the knife ) normal reply from the Gas Man is, yeah right social drinker eh !

Not impressed with the standard of Doctors at the Military Hospital.I only go there for minor things. Hernia op there ? No chance.
What do you know GT93 about the hospital doctors and staff you dont even live here .

Well, first things first right..Thank you ALL for all the replyes and suggestions.

I can tell you that my famous HOT temper nearly peaked at the Doctors answer(s).I came in to meet my Doctor,i had prepared my wife AND myself with maybe tops 10 Q:s.Well as you already know after, was it the SECOND question maybe, then the Doc in a rude way, bodylanguage and verbaly, told me that HE is the Allmighty and didn't want to hear anything moore from me..Well later even my wife said,we try somewere else..i agreed.

If i could i would go back home and do it there BUT no chanse of doing that.Waiting maybe 6month to 12 month..no thank you.Bankok and Bumrungrad International Hospital waaaaaay to exspensive, that said without checking the price..So back to square one.

I'm now looking at Bankok Hospital in Udon, been there before..excellent.Okey,only a broken collarbone, but still..Again.thanks to all posters and hope you have a hernia free day ;-)
