I don't think they do email. There's no email address listed on the business card or the bill, just the street address and phone number.

Thanks all for the dentist advice.
I will try either Rak Fan or Wattra for a regular check up and cleaning.
Back here in farangland a crown costs 40k+ (for comparison, not that I need it right now).
So and as long the the thai clinic is clean and skilled, then it seems like a good option.

Speaking of dentists, can anyone recommend one for just routine work i.e. check-up and clean. Missed my last 2 six monthly check-ups through being out here and would like to get into the routine again. Also, what sort of costs am I looking at and is the procedure pretty much the same as the UK....or even better?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

I stand by my post a few years ago:

"We've done bi-annual cleanings at Rakfan Clinic (042-222-935), Amphoe Rd, the one-way side road between Phosri and Srisuk Rds, udon.map grid k-12. It's just before Maya Restaurant, same side.
Two female dentists, one capable of dental implants. Thorough cleaning 500 baht, single xray 100 baht. Clean, AC, speaks excellent English. We almost always just walk in, no appointment."

We've been using their services for several years.....routine cleanings, xrays, refillings, etc. Never had anything but good service.

After bad experiences with several dentists in Udon (see my previous post in this topic), I'm now a regular customer at Dr. Wattra's. She works professionally, she doesn't try to sell you unnecessary treatments and she works in a relaxed professional way.

If you ask for specific quotes (e.g. a crown) then she will give you a number of choices depending on the quality of the materials (composite, ceramic, gold, etcetera) you would like.

Hearing all the stories about solo dentist practitioners in Bangkok, I tended to use major hospital dentists at Samitivej and Bangkok Dental Hospital. The have specialist for every procedure readily available and clear pricing schedule.

Are there any private hospitals with dental staff in Udon? Any experience with them?

Two private hospitals in Udon:Panyavej-inter hospital and AEK-Udon hospital.

If you go back one page in this topic you can read my experiences with them. The downside of the 'specialists' is that they work part-time, and can only do their own small part of the work. So you have to make a lot of separate appointments with the different 'specialists' (don't let the root canal specialist try to make a composite filling or a temporary crown, because he/she won't know how to). Second, they will pressure you to make appointments for unnecissary dental work. Third, the hospitals are often more expensive.

In Udon some solo (all round) dentist practitioners are a lot better than the 'specialists' that work in the private hospitals.

Implant 45-50,000 Baht depending on the material. I only asked for a quote. So, can not comment one way or the other on their work.
But pleased with other work, e.g. extraction 500 Baht, cleaning 500 Baht, etc.
For the name, direction, and the tel no., please read the post by Parrot on the first page.

Hi Malc.
My wife has had 2 implants made. The dentist has her clinic opposite the Udon Hotel on Makhang Road No.: 118-120. She is working every day from 1200 - 1300 and evening 1630 - 2000 weekdays and Saturday - Sunday 0900 - 2000. She speaks perfect English, and her clinic is modern, clean and sterile. She has a large parking lot behind her house which is newly build as is the clinic. Talked to her yesterday asking for a quote, and she said app. Baht 50.000.
Call her telephone 042-242584 or fax 042-242584.
I took some pictures from inside her waiting room if You are interested to see them, but recommend You to go there by Yourself to see, and You will find it the perfect choice.

Kind regards from maxeboy.

While on the way to Udon I cracked a tooth and after one week went to AEK to have extracted. Reason I used AEK is that I must take antibiotic prior to any dental work and I trust their pharmacy to dispense correct meds. Cost of extraction, premeds and post pain meds was approx 1650baht. Good service, not over medicated with pain meds prior to extraction, had full feeling in lips etc. about 1 hour after procedure. Female dentist spoke english and provided written medical eval for filing for reimbursement after getting back to States.

recently had bridge work done at AEK udon it took about 5 visits all of them expensive i think by thai standards . the guy doing the work was gay to the extreme and him and the nurse would yabber away about the gay blokes lovelife and giggle incessantly aside from this the 3 times he put a temporary bridge it didnt fit quite right , i had my suspicions that he was going to stuff up the real (and expensive one ) but by this stage i felt it would be hard to swap dentists halfway through the job, sure enough the real one doesnt fit so great either i am able to suck air and water (or beer ) through the gap near my gum, wouldnt recommend this lot for anything other than a filling

Dentist cleaning update

Post by parrot » April 29, 2011, 6:17 pm

Since there seems to be so much interest in dentists in Udon, here's my most recent experience:
Went to the Rakfan Clinic, about mid-way on the one-way street between Phosri and Srisuk, same side as the small post office.
Walked in, asked if a dentist was available, waited less than 5 minutes, had my teeth cleaned by an English speaking dentist, clean and air conditioned atmosphere......500 baht. Been doing it this way twice a year for the past 9 or so years, twice a year. The last time she raised her prices for cleaning was in 2004 (from 400 to 500).
I'm not related to the doctor and I own no stock in the clinic. Just happy to get good service, virtually on demand for a reasonable price.

Glad to hear they are still in business. Upcoming visit back to Isaan will have a stop at Rak Fan Dental on the agenda...
