Hi all,
I have just spent the last 3 days in beautiful downtown Nakhon Phanom. I take no credit in the content other than to say it is a very complete description of the highlights on offer in this beautiful part of the world. https://www.cantravelwilltravel.com/3-d ... -thailand/

What's the nightlife like? Not asking about girl bars just nightlife in general.

Hi Steve, can only speak to Friday, Saturday and Sunday, many riverfront bars with live music, not the morlam type. Craft beers have found their way to NKP.

No morlam means a not very happy town and populace. Nevertheless, it is a very nice and I enjoyed my time there. Right across the Mekong is Takket one of the happiest towns in Laos. Just down the road(90 minutes or so) from Nakhom Phanom is That Phanom, the most sacred wat in Isaan. It is sacred to Lao as well from the days when Isaan used to be part of Laos.
You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore.

We go back to NKP on occasion.....it's where we met in 1971, so there are a lot of memories in that area. When we moved to Thailand in 1996, we considered living in NKP, but at that time it was a sleepy town that rolled up the sidewalks at sunset. It's much different now, adequate nightlife, more shopping, better restaurants, and much better hotel accomodations.
