British Airways continues to suspend its direct flights to Thailand until 2023
By Nop Meechukhun -Thursday, 21 July 2022, 17:14

Thailand –
British Airways continues to suspend its flights to Thailand until at least 2023, the airline reported yesterday, July 20th.
The airline originally vowed last year to continue its London-Bangkok route after October 2022 but has now reviewed this decision.

They reasoned that Thailand is not top of BA’s list for resumption, as it becomes low-yield tourist traffic due to price competition from other direct and indirect carriers. BA is also now selling Bangkok flights with a connection in Doha using Qatar Airways’ services.

This will result in Thai Airways and EVA Air becoming the only two services to provide direct flights between Heathrow and Bangkok.

Fine by me, Alan, I've never been a fan of BA.

Yes agreed, BA have a terrible reputation.

Though if BA had resumed flying the LHR - BKK route sooner, that would have increased the number of seats available and might have helped keep prices lower, (more competition and all that). Currently, both EVA and particularly Thai Air are very expensive.

Four days ago, BA suspended all sales of domestic and short-haul tickets from the country’s biggest airport for at least a week in response to a cap on daily passenger numbers. This is both online and at ticket desks or through travel agents.

At the same time, a suspension of long-haul ticket sales is also being considered.

About two, maybe three months ago and before the sudden 'flood' of summer travelers, rather than being more than double the cost of their one-stop rivals, TG had a very competitive non-stop LHR fare. EVA hadn't reopened their Heathrow slot at that time either so it was a remarkable bargain for some. Didn't last long of course.

Out of curiosity I just went on Skyscanner to see what price my Eva return flights in September to Heathrow are?. I paid under 700 pounds a couple of months ago. Price now for the same dates, 2,160 pounds.
