Renewing Thai Driving license at AEK

Post by Galee » December 11, 2019, 6:16 pm

If you want to renew your Thai driving license at AEK transport office and you don't have a Thai ID card your out of luck.
They now operate an appointment system on-line that only recognizes Thai ID numbers and not the passport number on a falang held driving license.

Renewed at main office on Highway 2 Monday. Not a soul there! No video. Just identified colors and pulled string to align sticks. Had license in about 10 minutes.

That's good news Charlie. Hope it's the same when I go there on Friday. Immigration tomorrow. Not a good week for me. :D

Went to the one at AEK last week, found it closed, doesn't open till 10am now but big sign outside in Thai all about appointment system to be done on line, max 20 persons per session, didn't have one but decided I'm there, so I'm staying, had a very expensive coffee while waiting in the shop opposite , about 30 minutes before time a crowd started gathering, doors still locked, but bang on the dot, all surged in, orderly queue, joined it was given numbers ticket 17/18, wife was with me, missing a few copies they need, passport, so shot upstairs in hospital reception got them done @1bht each, back down , handed them over, was ushered into a room for colour and reaction test, no problem, then into video room, watched for 30 minutes, most Thai's slept or played with their phones then we all sat in the next room waiting for our name to be called, had photo taken, paid the money waited for new license, another ten minutes, all done and dusted, good until my 90th birthday now.
Age is a matter of mind.
If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Hello Charlieb...
Sounds good, have not heard of highway 2.
Can you please point me in the right direction.
Is it the highway to Kon Khen or Nong Khai (Sorry about spelling).
Thanks in advance.

Highway to Khon Kaen about 5 or 6 Km out on the right. Look for purple building.

Tip:
If you go a day after your birthday you get 6 years instead of 5. Seems they go to the next birthday after 5 years from issue. 😊

There's a DL renewal office in Central. Appointment only made by their phone app.
